I've got a question about uniforms during the battle of the bulge. Specifically a medic in the 101st outside Bastogne. I want to use the Nemrod

standing medic but I'm a little leery since he is wearing the M1941 jacket and by this time that uniform had been phased out for the M1943. Anyone have any objections? I think I'm just going to go ahead and use him since uniforms tend to be all over the place and I think I've seen photos of other soldiers in the old jacket during that time frame (I'll have to see if I can dig those up). And he has the wool overcoat tucked into his belt, which is perfect since it had just begun to snow.

So, I'm in the planning stage for a Christmas Day outside Bastogne dio where C company of the 502PIR 101st Airborne along with M18s from the 705th TD battalion are counterattacking the German breakthrough made by 18 German Mk IV tanks. I'll be using a half dozen figures and one TD. I know all my other figures will be in the right period dress, just on the fence about the medic. I'm having to find replacement boots for several of them (including the medic) since they are all paratroopers and would not have had canvas leggings.

I would just use him as well, as he could have picked up the uniform from anywhere, as you said, uniforms tend to be all over the place.

Have you seen the Band of Brothers series - it has an episode following a medic of the 101st. It may come in handy.

Also have you thought about using a normal combat figure but apply the medics kit to it instead of the combat gear. Just a thought though. Good look with the figures. Let me know when you post some photos, i am interested to see how it turns out.

I don't know how sold you are on the figure but if you can lay your hands on Dragon's "First Army, Advance to the Rhine",set it has a standing medic, in the late war uniform, and the late war boots, which appear closer to paratrooper's boots. You would have to add pockets on the pants I guess to alter the uniform, but it appears closer. Still, as has been pointed out, many folks weren't "regulation" about their uniforms, so a 1941 pattern jacket at Bastogne is far from out of the question, however the 101st had just come from a period of rest and reorganization, so they may have been closer to regs.

Thanks guys. I actually ended up sculpting a M1942 jacket for him. I've got a couple pics up in the dio forum. More pics coming soon hopefully!

Could you give a link to the dio forum for your figure please?
