OK, I know this forum say's it for "all military ground-force modelling subjects" but I'm hoping I can get away with "riverine" ;-)
If it's in the wrong place: sorry!

For a complete change of genre from modern armor, during a moment of madness, I ordered Tamiya Pibber and the Eduard PE set for it
http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=TA35150
http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=ED53010

First impressions on opening the box were the kit looked quite simple but good quality. Part count is relativly small. But this will be biggest PE set I've ever worked with but looks like it will really add to the detail.

Main body build and base painted:

Currently working on all the equipment/gear:

Guns ready:

I left off most of the PE for the twin front guns as it was a very complex component and I was afraid of making a mess of it.

And started on the figures also

Did I mention I never do figures? Any kit I've got with figures before: I just leave them out!

All comments welcome!

Thanks for looking,
Sean

Nice work on the PBR!.

I bought one on sunday and I plan to use the Eduard set as well.

Do you have any pictures of it fully assembled?

Just a thought...
The shotgun that you have pictured looks like a modern pump shotgun (Remington 870?) I'm not 100% certain, but I do ot think that it would be accurate for a Vietnam setting. I know the Rem 870 was in use then, but the rear stock looks like a modern pistol grip. I do not think that those were in use/available back then. I think you want one wit a traditional straight type stock.

It did come out of a more modern set, but i haven't decided to use it yet. The figure that goes in the central armored station is sitting with an open single shot granade launcher in his hands while there is a rapid fire granade launcher above him: it just didn't make sence. So I was trying a few other weapns in his hands including another M60 or a sniper rifle. Still trying to decide. I may need to go to the spares box for other arms to change him a bit more.

Sean-- super job. The flesh tone on the figure does not look like a straight out of the bottle application, how did you get the realistic effect?
thanks

Actually, the 2 lower figures are. Humbrol no. 61 "flesh" enamel. The top figure had that mixed with matt red at a rough 5:1 ratio to try and get a sun-burned look. The 4th figure, whose head and arms are not shown, was attempted as african-american but still needs more work. It should have been easiest! They'll be getting a wash and some dry brushing tonight....

More progress and more practice with the new camera:

I'm quite pleased with how this is turning out so far. It's actually been a fun build! They say the camera never lies and somehow it shows up the overly-heavy wash in places more that it actually appears in the flesh so to speak. But at this stage I'm not re-painting and clear-coating and another wash.... too much of the detail added for that.

As I said earlier, this is my first real effort at figure: not bad if I say so myself!

Hi Sean,
So far so good.
One comment though, the fella on the twin 50s at the pointy end(I think its called the bow )
It might be the flash be he looks as if hes' wearing lip stick,I'd go with a repaint ,perhaps your flesh colour with a small dot of red,For what its worth I use Humbrol red brown mixed with white.

It's a good idea to start with pinwashing as this is one of the basic weathering techniques nowadays. I do think, it's better when possible, to try to remove the pinwashes you've added. I think they're added in too big amounts and then put away untill it was dry.

I don't mean to give this model "a bad mark", but to help you. Try to add only little amounts when pinwashing. It's better to add two layers and doing it right instead of adding one layer and doing it wrong.

Also keep a close look at he model when the paint is drying. When you see the pinwash is going in the wrong direction, you will have to react and try to repair that. When you wait untill it's fully dry, ít's impossible to repair it.

Thanks Guys. Yes Chris, the guy on the 50's needs to be redone and the 4th crewman is still a WiP.
Thanks Lars for the suggestions and tips on the washes....but they'll have to wait for the next build. It really doesn't look as bad in reality. I'll try getting a natural light shot without the flash if it ever stops raining here.

Cheers,
Sean

Lipstick removed, aeriels and awning added and all complete. BD's staying too brown and the over-done washes: that Mecong delta was a filthy place!
I really enjoyed this build. Not my normal subject and lots of mistakes, but I actually tried a number of new things here I wouldn't normally try (some of which actually worked.)

Did you notice who they're attacking in the first pic?
