I looking for advise or recommendations of products for a 1/72 diorama of Heston Airport near London in 1940. This is part of a project on the Photographic Development Unit- see this thread on Aeroscale It was still mostly civilian use at this time, so I don't want to use any of the Airfix RAF vehicles, as I don't think they would have been used.
I want to have at least one car- I was thinking of an upmarket saloon that would have been used by Sidney Cotton. The most suitable model I've found is this one of a Russian GAZ-M1. With a few small changes, it should look the part. Any other recommendations for suitable car models in this scale?
I was thinking of using several bits from Flightpath- the Thompson TB3 fuel tender, the dispersal set, for ladders, chocks, etc. Maybe the bicycles set too? Has anyone used them, or seen them reviewed? I've never soldered PE before, so they might be a bit of a challenge!
For figures, there is the old Airfix/Heller soft plastic RAF personnel, one of which is holding a F.24 camera, which is great for the theme. There are some expensive figure sets from Czech Master, but not much else in 1/72. Anyone know of anything? I'd also like to know who makes the most detailed 1/72 or OO gauge civilians?
Thanks for any advice, feel free to post inspirational dioramas that you've built!
