Hy guys!

A new question:
Can I use the "Steel Bar Cleat" tracks for a late M4A1 Sherman which is used in 1945. Or must I use the usual Steel or Rubber Chevron tracks?

Daleil, Yes. The T-49 three bar cleat could be used.
You could use nearly any of the track types on nearly any version of the M4. There was no true "standard" track type used. As the war progressed, rubber supplies dwindled, and the use of the all steel type tracks would seem more obvious.

Dave,you may wanna try RHPS or AFV Club tracks for your Shermans Yes they are individual links,but they snap together They go together pretty easy

Hi DaveCox

You have a couple of options.
1 - Contact Tamiya or Italeri directly and you can order parts.
2 - put a 'wanted' notice here in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum. I did that a while back and got lots of the rubber bands that folks don't use! I'm sure you could trade your indy links with someone out there!! Try posting on TL and Hyperscale too, and cover all the bases!!

Posting a set of tracks overseas is cheap (I've done it).

daleil and dave,if you're not keen on individual links,have you been to Accurate Armour's site,and check out the resin Traxpax they stock?they are more 'link and length' than seperate links,but are pretty well detailed and semi flexible,nice selection of M4 tracks too,prices around the £10 mark

AFV Club makes several one piece vinyl tracks for the Sherman series tanks. They come in two sizes, regular and the extended size to be used on British Shermans based on the M4A4 chassis. I have a set of the 3-bar cleat tracks for the regular hulled Sherman. They are number AF 35027 T49 track.

Rob, how do AFV's compare to the typical ones you get in Tamiya's kits? Good detail? Paint-able?
I've never seen them.

I'm going to use some ready tracks, no individual links. I use T-49 from the Academy M-10 (he got other tracks), but maybe I'll use some individual links for the other Sherman.

IMPORTANT!
Where can I get interior kits for Sherman (M4A1 Italeri or M4A3 HVSS Dragon), Verlinden??

Daleil,

Commander Series Models has a set which is for all M4's; Kit # 2051:


The Tank Workshop has an M4 Late Interior/ Wet Stowage kit # 0023 which may work in the Dragon kit: ??? Note They also produce an early M4 interior which states it's for the DML and Tamiya kits.


Verlinden's interior set, kit # 1244 is actually for Tamiya's M4 Early Production version.
I don't now if any of these kits could be used in kits other than the ones their respective manufactures state. ???

I've never seen them.
Better detail, haven't tried painting them yet though.

Hi

Regarding the T49 tracks from AFV Club, I used the Academy set on my M4A176(w). They painted up well, and fit nicely. I used acrylics and oils to do the weathering.

I assume the AFV Club ones will be similar, but someone out there must have an M10 with those tracks on it...

I would suggest staying away from the Commander's Series interior as it is pretty lame. My copy is plagued by many airbubbles and it doesn't include half of what you need (there is absolutely nothing included for the turret interior).

With a little work I would think the Tank Workshop and Verlinden interiors could be made to fit into any Sherman kit out there. I have not seen the TW kit, but the Verlinden one is actually the best Verlinden item I have ever seen (I'm not a big fan of Verlinden, but I really like this kit of theirs).

I've used Accurate Armour tracks on several projects and love them. They are easy to shape with heat from a hair dryer, and easy to cut too. Usually three lengths are glued together and run over the top of the sprocket, return rollers, and idler. Then with applied heat soften them and ben them 'round. Easy. The gap on the bottom can be filled with a piece cut from another length. On short-hull Shermans you'll end up with a spare set of tracks after purchasing four sets of the same type, since they give you extra track to do an M4A4 hull.
