I've never heard anything about Vallejo's product and I've not heard much good about WS, so if those are my only two choices I'd opt for Vallejo's. But it's not from experience, just from what I've heard.

Like ships in the night - there is a host of stuff you can use for water effect, however you will have to make yourself more clear on what you want it for, yeah it sounds like a daft question, then again, would you want a river effect when you're looking for a flat clear effect and so on - what can you use ? Well, there's silver tin foil, plastic sheet that I posted, and things like solid water, and gel, silcone to plaster, you name it someone has used it, so if you can give us some idea of what you're planning, perhaps people could help more.

Various techniques here:

For leveled water, the best product is clear resin. Vallejo Still Water is good to break the even surface of the resin once it sets but it's not good to create "deep water"

Acrylic Gel Medium (Gloss), is very good to create little waving.

I'll be creating a rough-sea diorama soon:

Feel free to contact me directly, if you think I might help.

1. You cut the tank and you only need to have a thin layer of water that can be done with severall layers of Still Water.

2. You make all the ground (margins, bottom of the lake and so on), build the whole tank, make a frame, creating a pool, fill with 2 or 3 layers of clear resin (to reduce warpage and heat during curing), use Still Water to create little waving.
