Hi there,
is there a british army specialist who can advise me on what type of tire did the SAS use on their Land Rovers during the ODS in 1991?
I am pretty much sure it is a different one to those used during Telic and available with the AA resin kit.
I am not sure but I think those I am looking for were also used on the LR 101 Forward Control with the regular army.
Thanks for any reply.
Jiri

According to Accurate Armour, these were fitted to Land Rover Series III and later Land Rover Ninety/OneTen models used in The Gulf War of 1991....

Jiri,
Thats my photo stream on flickr. I've blown up the original photo and it looks like Continental. If it helps you I've loaded the enlarged image (10 meg) for you to download: http://www.myemailspace.net/IMG_5861.jpg
I've tweaked the colours to make the tyre detail as visible as I can. I hope this helps you. I'll leave the image online for a week or so for you. I don't use this forum, but I saw it had accessed this image so I followed it back here! :-)

I'll try to do better next time Jiri I agree with Martyn about the Continental tires. They look like those fitted to some Unimogs (too bad they're bigger ..) :

I'll go with the Continental tyres as well.
My sources indicate a size of 9.00 x 16 - as you say Jiri the same as used on the 101 Forward Control.
If you are reading this Frenchy I assume the Unimog tyres are larger?

Yes, AFAIK most Unimogs are fitted with 20 inch wheel rims

Thanks Frenchy. I'm not too familiar with German vehicles, but thought they would be bigger.

Hi. I can 100% help you here. I am a owner of one of these gunships and the correct tyres are Continental 900x16. Yes you are right the same has fitted to a 101 fwc.
The mystery tyres in the dpv photo you have are very similar, they ar made by 'Danubiana' a very close copy.
The correct tyres for the Mothership Unimog are Michelin XL's. Nato grip patern. as used on every 110 or 90 about in the 1990's. Not sure of size though. Think it may be the same has used on the Bedford MJ's.
Hope this has be helpful
