I'll be working on the Dragon E-100 in the near future. I was thinking of changing the main gun from the standard 12.8cm gun to a 15cm gun since the E-100 was proposed to have that size gun. In the below pictures is what I'm considering on a side-by-side comparison.

This first picture shows (from bottom to top) the standard kit gun, the Jordi Rubio 12.8 cm Pak 44 for the Huntng Tiger or Maus barrel, and then the JB Model 17 cm Kanone Gerschutzwagon Tiger barrel. They are placed at the distance they would protrude out of the mantle. I'm using the 17cm one to make it look like a 15cm one. In 1/35 scale the size difference shouldn't be that noticable plus I love the perforations on the brass muzzle brake. It's the main reason I bought it. I may not use the second section of the 17cm barrel shown. I may just use the first part.

Image 2 shows the Dragon turret on top of the 17 cm gun

The last image shows the turret with the JR barrel but with the kit muzzle brake. Either way it's going to add 1 to 2 inches to the overall length of the barrel from the original kit one.

I like it the original barrel looks too stubby. And since it never existed no one can say its not accurate.

Exactly my thoughts as well!!

I did a Google image search on the E-100 and actually found someone who did the same thing with their model. Oh darn, and I thought I was being original.

Check out the second tank in this series of models. You can't see the whole gun until the 6th and 7th picture and that's what I'm looking for!! WooHoo!!

Thomas Jentz and hilary Louis Doyle published a new Panzer Tracts book last year with all the latest research and drawings on the E-100 and the Maus, including the updated plans for the planned E-100 turret (which was to use the Maus II turret with a slightly thinner armor base). You can use this data as a basis for your speculative version. The book is available directly from the publisher, or through several online web shops.
