for example, most improved modeller, most reviews done, most photo features submitted, best figure, best overal model, best dio. just for fun,?
i think that would be pretty cool!

Nice idea, but there will be many problems with it.
Who decides which builder has improved the most? Who decides which build is the best? Everyone has different preferences.
The same on who made the most reviews. Of course, that's easy to see but still. The amount of reviews won't always tell the quality. Maybe someone which made only 1 this year could have made the best one.

And, like most 'awards', it can become a popularity contest.

Argee with UncaBret.
The idea has merit, but I feel it could quickly turn ugly of not watched all the time.

There was an award at one time, the cherished "golden rivet" that was given out monthly (IIRC) based on user voting. It was discontinued for the very reasons that Uncabret and Brian mentioned.
Who decides who is most improved, best overall such and such. It ends up being pretty divisive.
Just act like you are going to win an award for submitting the most photo features, reviews, etc. and the site will keep rolling.
