Israeli armour - detail painting questions

Couple of quick queries on IDF armour. First, does the IDF paint muzzles and muzzle brakes black, or do they just get mucky with use? And second, on the practice of painting odd things like latches and tow-hooks red: is it universal, as in applied to everything, when was it adopted, and would it have been done to existing vehicles or only to new ones?

AFAIK, tie-downs, tow shackles, lift points and tow cable ends sometimes are painted red and sometimes they're painted black. This was used since late 70's, I've seen some Centurion Sho't-Kal painted that way. There is no rule about that, so check your reference if you want to model an specific vehicle. Best regards.

if i remember correctly. the muzzle break is painted (black).
about the red thingi: it's usually done to vehicles in display. normally, they are black, not red, though you may come across a tank with them painted in idf gray. still, black is more common.
