I thought it would be nice to show the international diversity of the site and allow user to show a little national pride. If you'd like to have your countries flag appear on your posts (like mine is now) and on your profile page simply go to the My Account: Change password/info area and about half way down you will see a place to select your country.

I have not completly finished coding all the country variables so if you go back to make other changes make sure the country selector doesn't say none. Otherwise you will wipe out your selection.

If anyone's country is unrepresented in the list please let me know.

Cheers,
Jim

DOH! I see (for me) that all users are showing up with whatever "my" selected country is.

Will have to fix this. You can still make your selections if you wish so that when I get this working properly they will show up.

Toni,
Lol...that's because I was using your account as a test case (along with mine).

I fixed the problem in the 2nd post above. All should be working now.

Thanks,
Jim

This is cool!
There´s always room for some patriotism!
And I think every army-oriented human being loves uniforms, cockades and insignias etc.
They are also funny things to brake. What´s funnier than a high rank officer giving a lesson to a guy because of a loose button?

HEE.

Jim,

Everytime I go into my profile I need to make sure that I pick a flag, otherwise I lose it....I know, I know it's probably my swedish computer... :-)

Nice touch Jim! I like it.
I still need to get another 600 posts before you promote me to 'Jedi Knight' though. Maybe you'll speed up that promotion when you see my completed fiber optic Star Destroyer! ( maybe ) It's a good thing I've still got two months to work on it....
Again, the flags are pretty cool!

Two months? I had to do service for a year to rank Sgt.!
Not in Armorama, though.
Ok ok. The other six months of my real service I was making a newspaper...so I´m a real killer. Come close and I will throw you with my mouse!

Brian,
Once again I am perplexed. Some of the other countries (one's I didn't think were represented yet) don't have the right "IF" statement in the code so that's exactly what would happen on them. But Sweden does have the statement so it should be working correctly. It almost sounds like "scripts" are disabled on your machine on some level. Did you try the
"restore defaults" in the security settings of IE?

Is anyone else noticing this? If so what's the country?

Glad everyone seems to like the new feature!

Thanks,
Jim

Actually, I was referring to the article I'm going to write for the ArmoramA contest. Remember, you're talking to a Major :-) so I'd keep a respecful tone, Staff Sergeant Envar! (note appropriately inserted smileys! )

Toni's ranking is somewhat of a special deal. He can't progress any further up the rank system and he wanted to stay at Sergeant so I gave him a special rank of Staff Sergeant in the Finnish Armed Forces.

I may be willing to do this for others, but on a limited basis. And only in a similar situation to the scenario above (replacement of a rank that you have ALREADY reached). I can't have 50 special ranks in the database, it will get to be too much of a maintenance nightmare.

Cheers,
Jim

Jim, sorry about abusing your kindness to get a special easter egg. I knew you would have some questions coming.
But hey, I´m now completely stuck in my rank and will probably be code-redded here all day long! And any bold statement from my side will court-marshall my butt!

BC,
It was intentional. It's hard to explain why (not a lack of patriotism certainly), but I just felt the site owner/webmaster should be a little more neutral.

If that makes sense.

Hi Jim

I don't think your impartiality is called into question by waving your flag!
Adding a flag is optional, and it doesn't change how we interact, I hope!!

No problem Jim, just wasn't sure if you were aware of it or not. I thought showing the flag for each user signified the diversity here on Armorama and not anything negative?

Andy said it perfectly.
