Well I had a week off and didn't fancy building an aircraft, so out of the stash came a 1/35th Dragon KingTiger (kit no 6208). Built OOB, painted with Tamiya Acrylics and weathered with Mig pigments.
The two German soldiers are out of Dragons Last Battle, Austria set, very nicely detailed, but there was not any colour guide included, so I guessed most of the colours .
Water coming from the pipe is melted clear sprue. Street is made out of plaster, with the cobbles scribed into it. Various rubble from Plus Models.
Flag is made out of tissue.
Comments welcome.
Andy
P.S I haven't gone for accuracy, so don't even go there .

Hi, this is a great dio!!! In the distant first shots, I kept wondering what that clear stuff was. Maybe they should have some canteens to fill up while they're down there. Maybe a few Russian helmets or weapons near the flag for the counter attack feeling. Just ideas. I like your idea and scene very much.

You did this in a week? Congratulations.
I like it a lot. The flag looks a bit too clean though.

looks good Andy
The black around the base is a little to bright and draws the eye a little, a gloss black I would guess, try Humbrol acrylic satin coal Black to reduce the shine .
It is not always about the accuracy as long as you enjoyed it,
Look forward to seeing this one in the flesh at some point
cheers

Thanks guys, glad you like it.
I did think of that, but a quick search through the stash turned up no Russian equipment, other then the HobbyBoss 1/48th T-34 .
I shall give it another wash of Burnt Umber to dirty it up a bit.
Well it was supposed to be X-18 semi gloss black, but halfway through painting the base I noticed it was the X-1 Gloss Black I had picked up instead, I will tone it down a bit.
I would also like to thank you Keith for the feature you did on A Simple Diorama which really helped.

looks really good, and the water is quite affective. wouldn't it go somewhere though? i'm thinking you could widen the pool with some resin or even just brush some gloss varnish onto the bottom of the crater to make it seem a bit less dry? very nice model though.

Andy, that's a cool looking vignette. Bravo!! I like the colours, shading, and weathering of the whole scene.

I would agree. Perhaps add a some varnish in the bottom of the crater? I suppose there wouldn't have to be a pool of water, the ground could be soaking it up (admittedly, probably not that much, unless the crater was just made).
For a tiny bit more realism with minimal hassle, I would just add a bit of varnish around the bottom of the crater to make the ground look wet. If you wanted, maybe you could darken the dirt before doing that, as the ground would be darker when wet.
The more time consuming step would be to add a puddle/pool of water(with resin) that the guy would be kneeling in.
I can understand if you just want to leave it alone though, it already looks very nice. Great job.

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated.
The funny thing about varnishing the bottom of the crater is, I have, about a whole cap full of Future (Klear) went in there, never to be seen again. I think the groundwork is soaking it up, because its not leaking out anywhere .
I did try to melt some clear sprue until it became liquid, but that just became messy and stank.
I think I will keep pouring Future into it until A - I run out, or B - It works .
I did think about getting some resin water, but my local shop only does EZ water, and I have read that stuff is pants.

a nice easy product is envirotex lite. It is a two part resin mix that is clear, and is meant for protective coats over wood surfaces, but it's basically just resin. Your local craft store should carry it.

Another amazing model Andy!
I have had similar problems with Future being absorbed by the base. It takes several pours until the base seals up and you get a nice glossy film.

Well I had a week off
What a productive week. The king Tiger looks great, as does the crator hole. Id agree with what has been said previously about getting some more water into the hole bottom ... but also darken the surrounding areas with a dark brown or black and gloss mix to show its wet. The clear sprue trick was perfect for the water ... good idea.

A week!!!!
You could maybe try diluting some white glue and using that to seal the bottom of the crater, then going for more Future...though I think the resin water would be the best idea.
Anyway, nice work for only a week.
