I just finished the pilot model for my latest 1/35 kit. As always, I'm looking for constructive critisisim and feedback. The kit features finely detailed hydrocal castings, a big bag of rubble & bricks and full color painting and aging instructions. While based on a photo of a building in Iraq, I think it would look pretty good set in WWII Europe as well.
The model Measures 12" x 8" x 10 1/2" tall. The base and tank are not included.
Like I said, let me know what you think. Thanks much!

Nice detail. Looks generic enough for more than a couple periods and theaters. Do the doorways open onto balconys? Are they going to be included in kit?

Overall very nice, my criticizm is the left side. There is re-bar sticking out indicating that the brick on the short wall to the left of the re-bar is an interior wall. If so, I would prefer a stucco finish on the inside. I know I can put some spackle on it and 'make' it what I want it to be. i think there may be customers who won't.
I also 'want' a balcony off the square 'doors'.
The detail is fantastic and the sculpting is really well done.

Randy, it does look good (very good). However, with the weight of the model it's not going to be practical to Mail it outside of the States..

I say it looks good but I have yet to see such buildings in Europe? Not even modern ones.
Speculating here below.
Im wondering about the mix between concrete and brick? Would a brickwall support the concrete floor? Wouldnt it be easier and more sturdy to use concrete blocks for all of the building?
Cheers

Thanks to all for your input.. While this would proabably be best used in a contemporary middle east dio, I suspect if it was toned in grays instead of yellows it might look good used as cold war era Soviet "public" housing as well. In any case, glad you seem to like it well enough.

Google "Bauhaus" images. Not exact, but this style of architecture from the 20's & 30's looks similar.

True, the hydrocal is heaver than vacuform. The main advantage though is that in most cases you can have plaster kit glued together & ready to paint in about 15 minutes. You can get right to the fun part of building a diorama!
BTW. I've found that the packaging on these is just about bullet proof. I had one kit go to & from Italy twice (an address mix up) & when I got the kit back I opened it to make sure everything was ok before I sent it out again. There was no damage at all. I have to admit even I was a little suprised! : )

Ok, it seems I have been in the wrong parts of Europe?
But the "Bauhaus" pictures seems after a quick look be of the very same building? If so, is it representative of buildings of that time and place?
However, when you mention it, it does have a certain look of buildings behind the iron curtain.
Cheers

I was going to say exactly what Scott said about the need of a balcony. You would expect to see either a balcony by the doors, or perhaps if the balcony had collapsed, rebar sticking out of the area where it would have been, and some rubble on the ground. It is a beautiful piece though! Hope you do well with it!

Personally, i'd label it as a 'German Government Building' the style is absolutely the same as that of the former Luftwaffe HQ in Berlin (only 3rd Reich govt building still standing in Berlin).
You can also see identical style (official) buildings in Russia. Hell, it'd be o.k. for Prague 1956...

OK. I added balconies and a couple of other small details as suggested. The funny thing is, in the orginal photo the balconies were missing, I don't know if they were blown off or whatever but they weren't there. This does look better though. Thanks again!

Great building Randy! . Is there anyone in the UK supplying this?.
Jim you have a point about it being a Europiean building but however watching a few videos
of the current state in Iraq it could be used a base with some modifacations it could be used as a middle eastern building!

Its a very good likeness from the real thing considering the picture Jaymes provided.
But some of the main/supporting of the walls seems to be concrete where its not on the model and vice versa?
I guess the balconys will be separate parts so the builder can chose himself whether to use them. Perhaps one of the could be damaged?
Cheers

Very good looking buildong
It actually works very well as a Middle east building. I've lived in Beirut.. been to Syria and Jordan.. and now I live in Egypt.. and it could fit in any of these countries.... as I'm sure it could work for Iraq, Gaza and all other Middle Eastern countries.
