All,

I was wondering what the most appropriate base kit would be to build a Leopard 2A6 HEL (Leopard in Greek service). I am really intrigued by the colours of the camoflauge used on these vehicles (see link to image below). It would be a nice change from the standard NATO scheme. [img]

Any help regarding this vehicle would be more than appreciated.

Cheers,

Duncan

The nearest that I could find is the 2A6EX from Hobby Boss. It has a lot of boxes and other items on the rear of the turret that don't appear on, say, the Tamiya 2A6. Unfortunately it doesn't match any actual exported 2A6 - it's closer to the company demonstrator - so there are still a few odd bits missing. The rear-of-turret parts from Hobby Boss's 2A5DK offer a few useful items like extra grouser racks, but I fear I'm going to have to fall back on plastic card and a pair of dividers ...

Sean,

Thanks for the insight. I figured it would come down to scratchbuilding and kit bashing to make this one work. Perhaps when I'm feeling up to the challenge I might tackle this one. Modeling the Leopard 2A4 in Greek service might be a more feasible option to pursue at this time.

Cheers,

Duncan

Prior to embarking on your build, I would strongly recommend you visit the IPMS Hellas website and pick up a issue 16 of their magazine on CD. The CD contains a number of excellent photos of the Leopard 2A6 HEL and is simply a must have if you are planning on embarking on such a build.

If you're interested, I've put together a list of Leopard 2 reference material and a list of Leopard 2 1:35 kits, conversions and accessories (the Leo 2 kit list was started by Frank Lobitz and is maintained by myself).

If you plan to do the 2A4 build your in luck as far as kits go. Perfect Scale just released a upgrade kit for the Hobby Boss 2A4 kit. I have looked at pics of the Greek 2A4 and it looks like there are no mods to the of the self German Leopard.
Dan I'm not sure if you already know about this kit from perfect Scale but it would be a good addition to your already excellent Leopard lists.

Chris, I added the new Perfect Scale bits to the Leopard 2 kit list just a few nights ago. Thanks for the heads up though - I always appreciate being kept 'in the know'.

You can ask whatever you want in English and surely you will take an answer.
