I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I'm going to do a road side bomb with a Abrams and a Humvee with figures.I need a car or truck.

But not sure what type of cars or trucks they use so I don't have it look weird. I want to be some what acccurate. They'll be in 1/32 scale everyone says the scale is OK but I'm not sure about type, like toyota, nissson, chevy, ford etc.

Happy Modeling

Just do a Google image search for "baghdad trafic" and you'll get some interesting pics :
BAGHDAD TRAFFIC

Lots of Japanese cars, pick-ups (Toyota and Nissan) and minivans, Korean cars (Kia, Daewoo) licence-built Volkwagen taxis, many european cars (Opel, Mercedes, BMW...). I've also seen Chevrolet Caprice (sometimes used as taxis).

Arii has released several Japanese cars in 1/32td scale (50s to 90s) you can found them on eBay. Monogram made 1/32nd scale Toyota and Nissan pick-ups (Snap-Tite kit series) but they may be harder to find...

On a side note, Schabak makes some 1/35th scale diecast Ford Transit vans.

In 1/32 I've used these kits:

The Monogram Chevy Malibu-it makes a nice generic four door sedan, although the wheels need replacing. You can get an engine for it by kit bashing any of Monogram's Nascar Snaptite kits.

The Chevy ZR2, which is actually an S10. Change the rear bumper and you have what is still called the LUV in Iraq.

The Chevy pickup - it doesn't say anywhere in the instructions, but I believe it to be a 1970 stepside. In some areas these were nearly as prevalent as Toyotas.

Not pictured is the Arii Toyota Celsion. Great as is for Afhanistan. Purists will want to change it to left hand drive for Iraq and remove the Toyota emblem, replacing it with a Lexus emblem.

I've also used Tamiya's Pajero and Range Rover, but both need different (smaller) tires.

You may also try a '55 Chevy. While I never saw one there, I did see a '57, a photo of which Iposted on here last year, so it's not a stretch. It was in pretty nice shape too.

I took this north of Tal Afar, so I thought it MIGHT have been the same car. It even has a roof rack, but it is definitely not the same one.

How about these models for options for vehicles

This first one I have started as a skip lorry

I like the look of the others but the prices are a bit off putting.

Yes, the Canter and Fuso trucks are widely used in Iraq as well. Korean Bongo trucks are also widely seen.

Maybe 'cleverly disguised" die cast is the way to go...Bandai does some in 1/35th, mostly emergency vehicles, all of which would have seen service in Iraq - Ford E 350's, GM and Mercedes. There are other "boutique" 1/35 diecast but waaaay too expensive to use in a dio....

There are those who would denounce die-casts as toys - a sentiment with which I happen to disagree, especially if it's not th focal point of the dio, but just serves in supporting role. As it has been demonstrated by some very talented modelerd, die-casts can be made to look quit realistic. If I could find a 1/35 die-cast of a Trabi or a Wartberg, cost would be a non-issue for me.

Not 1/35, but maybe 1/34 would be close enough

1/34 diecast Trabant from eBay :

...I agree, one needs to make the distinction between "toy" diecast like Hot Wheels and "collector" die cast which is in essence a scale model in metal. For instance check out DHS diecast and you can get a Mamooet crane in 1/64 that reaches something like five feet high!
As an aside JLG, who manufacture boom lifts, etc. have a really nice 1/35 line. Since I operate the real thing I think I might pick up a couple....maybe work it into a modern dio - they have two US army telehandlers as well....
