being bored on my day off i decided to purchase Academy's M113A1-ACAV (it was cheap!) Whilst surfing the net for inspiration I couldn't work out the type of ammunition boxes that would have been used, both for floor protection and for carrying extra rounds. Can anyone help out, through pics or suggestions of which boxes to use, could i get away with using WW2 era .30 and .50cal,or not? thanks in advance..

WWII ammo boxes are incorrect for Vietnam era vehicles. Vietnam to modern ammo boxes are the same. If you can find either the Academy ammo box set or any accessory set that has modern ammo cans, they will work.

Okay, now you guys have peaked my interest...What's the difference between WWII .50 cal. ammo boxes and modern ones? Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks, Matt. Now I have to do some repainting for my M48A3. At least the detailing I put on the open one won't go to waste; it'll end up on my up-coming T26E3.

Wow, Matt, thanks. I came really close to saying there was no difference. Thanks for the heads up. Please don't show these photos to any contest judges before I check what I have where.

You'll note the WWII can opens along the long side of the box, while the new one opens at the narrow end. Verlinden's Box-O-Cans uses this type.

I wouldn't totally rule out the useage of WWII cans in Vietnam. Stuff like that tends to stay in the system for many years until totally phased out by attrition.
Didn't the Air Force have problems with using the WWII vintage bombs in the 'Nam?
