What type of case did they store the 105mm shells in?

I found some wooden and wicker boxes in my old Dragon flak 37 box and i need to know if i can use them.

Kind Regards

The sHF 18 Field Howitzer (Schwere = HEAVY) Feldhaubitze 18 was a 15cm Calibre gun. All charges were 'bagged' - a canvas bag for the propellant charge and the shell seperate. Wicker cases were only used for some of the 'fixed' ammunition types 75, 88 etc. Charges for a 15cm would be kept (if my memory serves me well) in a wooden charge box.

However, if you're talking of the leFH 18/40 (Leichte Feldhaubitze "light field howitzer") it would certainly have these for storing rounds:

Thanks for posting them pictures Jim.

After looking for more info on the net i came across some photos of individual wicker basket that contains the 105mm shell,i thought they might of used a larger case that had 3 or more shells in each case.

Just for discussion purpose.

I have seen these in the Dragon kit so i can expect some sort of resin type somewhere, maybe plus models?.

Many thanks

Karl,

Wicker cases were used for 15cm ammunition as well. They are a common feature on the sIG 33 equipped vehicles like the Bison I for example. Not sure if the rounds were different from the sIG 33 to sFH 18 but they will look the part in terms of size I think. I believe Tiger Model Designs and/or Tank Workshop had these available in resin at one point in time but not sure about their availability now.

Hi Karl
AFV Club have a set that might work for you
German 105mm Ammo & Accessories
Ammunition LeFH18 & Accessory Set - 35062. I have this set ... let me know if you want more details on it.

Also in their leFH18M 10.5cm Howitzer kit (35S24) they appear to have 2 resin wicker baskets of the type that Jim showed ... 3rd image down. Can be seen on PMMS
Do Hobbyfan release these resin items seperately?

In Dragonīs kit ... GERMAN sHF 18 Howitzer w/limber ..... there appears to be the wicker type canister
See here

Thanks Bill

Thanks Frank That AFV Club set are nice, might look into them.

I was thinking of glueing two gasmask canisters together and cover them in miliput but i cant think of away to simulate the wicker effect.might give it a try later.

Thanks

Thanks as well - I've got two built leFH18s (AFV Club ones) and never actually had a clue what to do with them. These ammo cases have now given me some inspiration!

Hi Jim

I was filling in the Review form and after reading the guide lines it said has to be a min of 400 words.I didnt want it to be a long review just a short one with pictures. Also there are no reviews on Mr Model products.

As it would be my first can it be short and sweet
If so i can submit one later?

Cheers

I don't know if that will help you but that's what I got. It'a an ammo case of the 10,5cm leFH 18 howitzer with the 100% original paint. I found it few years ago in my neigthours barn

Guess what I keep inside it today?

Surprise surprise:
