Hi there!

My latest project.. inspired by Alexandre's Crete 1941 "red spring" diorama and war-time photographs :

The wall is made from Polystyreen and the base from clay with a woodglue-water-sand-tinyrocks-putty layer for a bit relief.

The pictures:

How it should be:

How it is at the moment:

The next thing will be paint on the base, figures (4 Commonwealth and maybe one Fallschirmjäger) and a citrus- or olive-tree (I still need to figure out how) and more

Bye!

Wijnand

I 'll keep a close eye on it Viennant.
Cool composition and architecture on it. Smart start.

PS : the diorama is far better than the sketch, there's no declivity in the path.

Hi Wijnand.,

itīs good to see other scenaries than ethernal-Normandy-Germany-Russian steppe :-)
I like the composition with curved wall. the stone texture is very convincing also.

Hoi Wijnand,

Looks like you're off to a good start. I look forward to following your progress. Nothing wrong with being a slow modeller - I'm also one of those

Thanks guys,

@ Uruk-hai: I worked on one figure, a mix of "DML's Commonwealth Infantry, Italy 1943"and "Miniart Armoured Car Crew", no probably no vehicle

New update;

I tried to create an Olive tree, this is the result. It is made of copper wire, milliput and kind of moss I found in Austria.

Next thing to do, is to create leaves. I think, after trying to make leaves myself, of using thyme.

Hope you like it and please comment!

Hello Wijnand,

Looks good so far mate, maybe a closer shot could be nice to appreciate the wood texture.
The tree structure looks fine to me.
Looking forward to see the leaves and the rest of your job on it.

Keep posting.
G'bye.
Alexandre.

Hi!

The roots of the tree looks a little bit to weak to me? Perhaps you should try to build them up a bit more? Also in a more sloping way from the trunk?

Cheers

Olive tree looks Great! Thyme for leaves sounds pretty good too.
For a ton of photos of olive trees(or just about anything else!),try searching onwebsite called Picasa. You won't be disappointed.
Cheers!

Hi there,

New update. I airbrushed the whole thing including tree. Sorry Alexandre, I don't have a decent camera at the moment so I couldn't make a close up of the tree. Next thing is placing some vegetation and finishing the figures.

I don't have pictures of the figures because of the camera..

Hi Wijnand ......I have been to Crete about twelve years ago. I don't know if it is helpful but the terrain in Greece and the Greek islands looks a lot like southern California with olive trees. I see that you are not from USA, but maybe you have visited us or have seen California in many movies. There are lots of stone walls like the ones you are doing and some not quite as high. Lots of goats and sheep running around and a curious critter they called a geep. Had dinner in a local bombed out building that they turned into a restaurant. It was really neat it was set up like a huge patio and there was no roof. But anyway so far so good , I would like to see the finished diorama. I am a slow modeler too and like most all of us have a bunch of stuff started that never seems to get finished. Hang in there...........Al......

It's coming along nicely,Wijnand. Base and stone work look better and better. I feel your pain about the camera issue. I went a long time without or borrowing from friends. Then Santa Claus was good to me one holiday!
Cheers!
