I know that two of the primary Military Police vehicles used were the M151 and the M706/V-100.
On the GlobalSecurity website the have the following information..."Due to added military police commitments and the fact that the battalion's V-100s were positioned in Saigon to assist the 716th MP Battalion, the 720th MP Battalion acquired twelve armored personnel carriers armed with .50-caliber machine guns."
Would these APC's have been the M113 (as in the Academy M113 - Vietnam 1/35 model )?
I have done some poking around on the web but have been unable to find anything definitive. Any info or photos would be great.
Thanks!
Chris W.

The Academy M113A1 Vietnam is a pretty good base kit. You may want to add details like the mesh screen and finer guards but theres alot in the box to start off with and it comes with some figs. All in all a good value.

Hi Chris,
Have you read this book "Vietnam Order of Battle" ? You may find the answer here. Anyway, you may also preview some content at this link http://books.google.com.hk/books?id=aUg2zQ9JpHQC&pg=PA307&lpg=PA307&dq=m113+vietnam+mp&source=bl&ots=jKM2skdnaz&sig=zNPB9VjukzVmUwny8h43lFR4ZUQ&hl=zh-TW&ei=l0M4Sv6UN8GUkAW7wLGiDQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4#PPA176,M1

actually an MP unit in Saigon would have a fairly generic looking M113. You won't see any real stowage and no RPG screens. Mud guards would be in place unless they were used stuff from a CAV unit. Then they'd be pretty well used up. Whatkinda time frame are we looking at? Also these may have been the older gasoline powered ones that were first used in the south, but were replaced with deisels later

Thanks for the replies...
Frenchy, I was assigned to the 89th MP Bgd from '82 to '87 so the 720th links were great. The pictures have given me some good ideas. To be exact I was detached to LEA-USAG III Corp as a dog handler. I would love to do some type of diorama involving a 113, a m151 and some dismounted MP figures if I can put it all together. Maybe a Saigon Tet '68 situation.
Is anyone aware of a 1/35th Vietnam Mp figure set? I know that there is a WWII german set that includes German Shepards that I may be able to retro-fit.
Any other infor or suggestions is appreciated.
Thanks again

Markings for "Bounty Hunter" will be released pretty soon... Finalising the instruction sheets as we speak... This is the only "track" with full marking details. Too bad the rest did not show their registration numbers or else I'd have all of them covered - all very nice artwork from the 720th MP site...

MP's also operated PBR's. There's an article on them in the latest MPRA magazine.

To date there are no dedicated 60's-70's US Army MP figure sets. The most common uniforms were the old OG fatigues w/black or jungle boots, the jungle fatigues and the Class B khaki uniforms. Depending on what duty was being performed, the headgear could have been the baseball cap, painted helmet liner or steel helmet with the fatigues, and the white round service cap for the khakis. Flak vests as required, TA-50 web gear as required, .45 cal pistols w/holsters (black leather), black leather or canvas .45 ammo pouches, black leather handcuff cases and night stick carriers. These were worn with the field gear, as there was no dedicated substitute for field duty.
Of course, the badge of that era MP was the brassard or arm band, black or very dark blue worn on the left arm, including the white MP letters below the organizational patch.
There are lots of Tet reference photos to give solid references for the particular uniforms you would want to portray. Tet was a crazy time, and caught on-duty MP's and off-duty MP's as well in many variations of uniforms.
Hope this helps.

Hi Jim ..I'm just sneaking in here in regard to your comment about Tet. There is plenty of reference material outthere alright.
There were 1,000 MP's stationed across 130 American Installations in the greater saigon area in Jan 1968.
At the begining of tet only 1/3rd were on duty. I was only reading last night about a Capt Robert J O'Brien from Massachusetts (born in Ireland originally) of the 716th MP Battalion, led a small force of MP's to liberate the US Embassy in Saigon after the VC try to over run it, great reading!!
Interesting thread guys, thanks a million
