Hello all
I was hoping that someone could help with some information on the 101st airborne assault on Brecourt Manor. I understand that from many reference sources, that the four artillery pieces emplaced in the field were 105mm howitzers. ( A few sources mention they were possibly 88mm)
As far as I can see, the only German 105mm artillery in the German arsenal was the Flak 38...? Were these guns not perhaps outdated French 105mm Scheinder howitzers...or am I confusing these guns with others removed from Pont du Hoc.
I also see a 10.5cm I.F.H on the 2-wheel carriage (there is a Trumpeter kit of this gun). Is this possibly the artillery piece in question.
Hopefully, someone with deeper knowledge of the incident and the airborne assault can clarify this...?
Reason for the question : a possible diorama in the making..!
Thank you and regards
Garth

Hello Garth, also another 10.5cm german artillery piece was used.
Itīs the "schwere 10cm Kanone 18" gun. I built my one from the Trumpeter-kit and my build-log can be found on the pages here. I continued my dio.
But this are no howitzers and they are very heavy-weighting.
So the lFh18 (10.5cm howitzer) would be the correct one.
greetings...
Soeren

You might check out the book "Beyond Band of Brothers" By Winters.
The book has what is said to be a picture of one of the guns in position after the battle. The gun is a 10.5 LeFH 18/40 as far as I can tell.

Many thanks to Joe and soeren
I found an amateur video on Youtube of the said Brecourt Manor field as it is today. I will try to get hold of a copy of that book, thanks Joe.
I am making a trip to Normandy in January and will visit the site personally (to get some perspective of the area). I the meantime I will have to decide on the diorama layout. I think I will only model 1 gun and the machine gun nest plus crew and paratroopers.
If anyone has figure / kit selections. I think the Trumpeter kit will do for the artillery piece and I have an abundance of MG34 and MG42's. As for the Easy Company paratroopers....any suggestions?
Thanks again and will keep you posted on progress...when it gets going.
Regards

Hey Garth
Why not have a butchers' at Nemrods offerings? The have a range of pathfinder figures, one of which is reviewed here
They are supposedly of good quality, and may be worth the few bob extra for resin...

Hi all,
Christophe Camillotte, the sculptor did a great job on Easy co paratroopers from Nemrod.
They're very well sculpted, and the poses (in action setting) are just fine.
Regards.
Alex.
