I was wondering if a Chenowth Fast Attack Vehicle has ever been produced (not in resin). If so, is it currently in production? I have been looking on the web and found one that was to be released back in 2006 and other that is resin.
Thanks for the help,
Tony

Thanks Frenchy. I guess I will wait on the HobbyBoss kit. It is probably for the best. My wife would shoot me if I bought another kit anyway.

BTW, cool build up of the FAV.

Unfortunatly that announcement is 16 months old and still no sign....
PMMS had it listed recently under the HB upcoming releases, but it's gone from there again now and the HB site has no mention of the FAV either.
Cheers,
Sean

Tony,
Back in the early 90's Dragon announced a FAV release but it never came to fruition nor was it kitted. I got tired of waiting for unfulfilled promises and built my own from an old mpc kit that I converted. I still have the completed model, and I think the kit I used is still around. I will try and post some pics of mine for u to give you a looksie. Todd

IIRC the actual vehicle used during ODS had an "upper" gunner's station. See:

Dragon didnt produce it because they couldnt figure out how to mold the frame. Costly and expensive. Other reason was that they couldnt secure the rights from Chenoweth.
Of course it could be wrong. I was told personally by someone who worked with Dragon and Kirin.

The kit might be an interesting subject for smaller industries.
The cage could be made by suplying apropriate thickness metal rod in the kit, acompanied by resin or plastic jigs to bend the rods in the required form.

SOPMOD6,
You are correct in the dragon info. Chenwoth would not release the rights for the model because they had a sealed contract with the US Army when they made the proposal, but in the long run the FAV that was actually used in ODS wasn't even close to the origonal proposal. But the Army has money to burn ,,so go figure.

Here we are waiting for one... I bet you'll have 3 or 4 plastic kits in no time from various sources (Trumpy / Meng etc.. )
Remember the T-80 ? Neubaufahrzeug ? T-90 ?
We just have to wait.

I'm not sure when "securing the rights" has ever been a problem in certain areas of the planet. Witness kits being produced with no logo on the grill.
I believe one of these resides at the Naval Reserve Center on Buckley Air Force Base.I have seen it, but am not sure it is exactly the same thing. If it is, I'll get a good walkaround of it someday with measurements.

As I recall, the licensing fee was paid, photos taken and measurements made. Alas, engineering at that time (early 1990's)
was unable to resolve how to design an easily buildable model. Thus the project was shelved.

To go a step further, I heard all sorts of rumors regarding the DML DPV. (AEF made one that was way off in measurements, but whoever made the AEF DPV tires, and there was rumor that it was a famous modeler, did a fantastic and accurate job).
The rumor was that the DML SEAL DPV would cost too much for such a small kit that fits in one's hand. But with model prices being what they are nowadays, perhaps a high price wouldn't hurt so much now.
Someone told me that the owner of DML wanted a SEAL DPV model and so DML engineering made him a SEAL DPV model...held together with tape and all sorts of fudges and fixes just for looks and appearances. It LOOKS like a SEAL DPV, but one cannot say it's accurate. The SEAL DPV was photographed on the DML owner's desk during an interview and printed in a Chinese magazine in the 1990s. I haven't seen that magazine photo of the DML owner's desk back in the 1990s, but my friend did.
As for the real SEAL DPV, I don't believe the SEALs use it anymore. The DPV was brought out of mothballs, refurbished for Afghanistan, and then no news as to its status since. The lack of a radiator is the main limitation to the DPV...can't cool the air-cooled engine in the desert. Chenowth is rumored to have made the LSV (Light Strike Vehicle) for the SEALs...the one with the turret ring, but no one has confirmed if the SEALs actually use the LSV, or any dune buggies nowadays.
This used to be one of the "most requested" models and every year or two, someone on the forums will ask where is the model of the DPV. Even to this day, a modeler wonders what is the status of the DPV kit. (I added my vote to the Revell suggestion).
So the mystery continues...
