Hi Guys,

Just finishing off a review on the 10cwt airborne trailers I bought for the Market Garden Campaign so I've started this build blog to see how they turn out.

Kit parts

Instructions are the old style:



The kit must have been out for a good few years now so the casting is in the old block style. You get 2 trailers, one covered, one partially open and both cast as a whole.



2 bags of parts for the trailers, wheels etc and some plastic rod for the build.

Hmmmm lots of interest here

Right folks work begins.

You get 6 suspension springs wiht the set. These need a bit of TLC to remove them from the plugs. This is handy as I snapped one, although I was able to repair it it is nice to have a couple of spares.

You get two bags of parts for the trailers, one has the rear panel for the open trailer in it.





I've removed 4 of the springs and cleaned up the towing hooks. The hooks need a small hole drilled in them to accept the support legs. The kit proivides plastic rod for this but I felt it was too thick so have sen of for some thiner rod.



As you can see from this pic the front end of the covered trailer wasn't square but diped in a bit and there was a bit of warpage on the side panels of the open top.





I squared off the front end with some millipit. It has left a small ridge but I think I can belend this in OK.



The fix on the warped panels required a bit of brute force and some masking tape which lifted a little of the rope detail, but I've fixed this with some milliput rope.





The wheels tidy up well



Oh yes, there are two locating joints on the bottom of the trailers for the usupension arms, these just say 'break me off', so be careful there too.

Very nice little kits Alan. I really like that the tie ropes are moulded in ... these will look great painted up. Nice sharp details .. pity about the warpage.

Yes, a bit of a pain. These must be fairly old kits now, so technology was different when the moulds were made. A little TLC and brute force solved the problem but it is something from which block casting suffered in the past if all that Ihave read and hear is correct.

The detail is great though, the builder just a bit heavy handed

Hi Guys,

This evenings progress:
added the main bits of the kit, still some tie downs to add to the side of the open top. Not convinced bu the size of the square axel but added some additional strength in the form of looped wire over the top of the axel to help secure it to the springs. Made the supports from brass rod rather than plastic rod.

Covered top. Just the break handle, a very small fitting and some wire to add, then a little light weathering.

At least some of the airborne trailers used in Op Market Garden had the MM Camo. First try at this some of the ears need rounded off a bit.

Well this is the first of the 10cet trailers done!

Added the break and some break wire, and the small handling rods at the front.

Just a little bit of light dust as I assumed the trailers would have been fairly clean coming off the gliders.









The small rectangle is the convoy plate. A bit of a FUBAR on this one as it has 4 rivets on one side which I only noticed when I had the paint on!!! Show up nicely though on the other version!

Morning Guys.

Well this bring to the end the build of the 10cwt airborne trailers. Very neat little kits for their age. You need a light touch, I tend to be a bit heavy handed though. To finish off the open top you need to add 9 small tie downs, I made my from brass wire. For the break cables I used lead wire and this time I put the convoy plate on the correct way!!

Anyway here you go.













Some additional pic of both. I might or might not add some MM camo to the closed top.







If you want a bit of a convoy well you could mate them up.

You also get a set of small tail lights, but I opted to leave them off as not all trailers had them.
