It was my first visit to the Nationals, I travelled from Inverness and will gladly do so again next year! What a pity it is not a 2 day event, I did not have time to take in everything.
I cannot help compare it to Euromilitaire and I would say that Duxford is miles ahead! If any sort of show/exhibition is going to fire the imagination of the younger generation, then it is Duxford. I expect that the big problem is money, but there are always ways around this given a committed and experienced team of organisers such as obviously already exists.
I would gladly assist the organisers in any way I can to help make it a 2 day event as 1 day just does not do it justice.
I think that it may be time to look at a bigger, more generalised type of event (which also caters for specialisations) to draw in new entrants to modelmaking and to attract larger sponsors. The location is absolutely perfect for this, and the mix of trade, military book fair, restored vehicles and competitions is very compelling. The next step to me would be to throw it open to all other modelmaking disciplines perhaps retaining the WWII theme as befits the location. Perhaps the traders could be accommodated centrally with seperate accommodation for each aspect of modelmaking.
Let me finish by saying that this should not be taken as anything other than the most fulsome praise for the organisers of this event.

Greetings Shaun,
Many thanks indeed for the picture gallery. Great stuff! I had forgotten what good things were on display. Thanks to all who participated to make the show a good one. The entries on the tables and stands just keep on getting better.
Plus, Mike, Thanks too for your observations. Many of us already make it a two or even three day event. For years, Heather and I have been down to the Red Lion in time to catch the regular Friday evening, ‘Folk night’.
If you are not involved in helping us set up the show on Saturday, some of the traders are there setting up and goodies and cash do change hands early. However, Saturday is the best time to look round the main museum and its collection. This leaves you free to really enjoy the Comps, marquee and surrounding visiting vehicles and traders.
As for other disciplines, we already have various IPMS and BMSS and other folk attending. Modelling folk wherever they are attending all have much to learn and pass on. Enjoy your hobby and help others to do the same. That’s what we are all about.
