On Sprue Brothers website they have too versions of the AAV...the RAM/RS and just a "regular" version. The RAM/Rs version is 20 dollars cheaper. Whats the difference? I just want one with the interior.

The both have the same retail price of $70 but the RAM/RS is marked down more. It's got the newer suspension. I'm fairly certain they both have interiors.

It is quite normal because HB released several AAVP variants within a few months time and the more standard version are not selling well. For example, #82409 LVTP-7 has been marked down 30 to 40% but still not going. On the other hand, #82415 AAVP-7A1 RAM/RS and #82411 AAVR-7A1 Assault Amphibian Vehicle Recovery were sold out quickly after first release. As Paul said, both have interior.

The next release #82414 AAVP-7A1 w/EAAK (Enhanced Appliqué Armor Kit) and #82412 AAVP-7A1 w/UWGS should go very quickly as well. Are you confused? I am.

#82409 LVTP-7

#82415 AAVP-7A1 RAM/RS

#82411 AAVR-7A1 Assault Amphibian Vehicle Recovery

#82414 AAVP-7A1 w/EAAK (Enhanced Appliqué Armor Kit)

#82412 AAVP-7A1 w/UWGS

Too many abbreviations for this "AAVP - Assault Amphibian Vehicle Personnel" already!!!

AAV RAM/RS - Assault Amphibious Vehicle Reliability, Availability, Maintainability/Rebuild to Standard Program has provided for a replacement of both the engine and suspension with US Army M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV) components modified for the AAV.

EAAK - Enhanced Applique Armor Kits were developed for the AAVP-7A1, and the added weight of the new armor necessitated the addition of a bow plane kit when operating afloat.

UGWS - Up-Gunned Weapon Station is an improvement added to selected AAVP-7A1 which include a .50 cal (12.7 mm) M2HB machine gun and a Mk-19 40 mm grenade launcher.

The appearance of each of these upgrades will make the vehicle looks different.

Is #82414 or #82412 the most modern?

#82412 is the most recent variant : UGWS + RAM/RS + EAAK (enough acronyms )

Maybe #82412 will only have the UWGS and no EAAK and the picture they show is just wrong...

You may be right, as the #82412 CAD drawings show a non-RAM/RS vehicle :

Frenchy, I agree that, from the look of the CAD images, #82412 looks like a non-RAM/RS LVTP (making it basically a better version of Tamiya's LVTP). If that is the case, then Hobby Boss has a gap in their lineup--there is currently no RAM/RS with EAAK.

If Hobby Boss decided not to release another AAVP with RAM/RS + EAAK + UGWS, I think we can get both #82414 and #82415 and do some conversion ourselves. If the box arts are correct, we should end up with the following two versions.

1. AAVP-7A1 RAM/RS + EAAK + UGWS
2. AAVP-7A1 with UGWS, non-RAM/RS, non-EAAK

I agree that their item release logic is a bit odd.

Has anyone checked to see what parts are actually in the boxes? You might get all of the parts that you need for more than one version. I have the V100 Vietnam which inculdes (I think) all of the parts needed fro the V100 PI version (Or is it V150 PI) I also have the V150 w 20mm which has the parts for the V150 w 90mm Mecar Gun. I don't know what they didn't market them as two in one kits.

It´s getting confusing...

Isn´t #82414 a RAM/RS+ EAAK+ UWGS?

According to the CAD image, I would say that kit #82412 is kit #82409 with the UWGS turret instead of the old turret.

And what´s the difference between #82413 and #82415? I cannot spot a difference except for the new exhaust/muffler.
What do they mean with "mounting bosses"?

I have to admit, I wasn´t really interested in the AAV before until Hobby Boss released them.

No it's a non-RAM/RS (= older variant) one.

#82413 is the older variant. #82415 is the newer RAM/RS one, with a new muffler and a new running gear. The RAM/RS is fitted with Bradley wheels and return rollers (no return rollers on the older LVTP-7/early AAV7A1 amtracs).
The "mounting boss" are the small square and rectangular mounting lugs (with threaded holes) welded to the hull that are used to fit the EAAK armor parts :

Thanks Frenchy!

So #82414 is #82413 with EAAK?

All AAVP-7 are brought to RAM/RS standard IIRC from an older thread, correct? And the UWGS was before the RAM/RS upgrade?

BTW, the LVTP/ AAVP-7 has item nos. #82409- #82415. Not shown on the Hobby Boss site is #82410. Probably this could be the missing link AAVP-7 + UWGS + RAM/RS + EAAK

According to Janes.com, the first production UGWS turrets (made by Cadillac gage Textron) were delivered during 1987 to early 1988. The RAM/RS program commenced production in November 1998.
