This "box" comes with the trumpter M1A1with mine roller , no description on the instructions as to what it is . As far as I know it was used to lay a marking tape/ glo sticks of areas that had been cleard for mines. I do not believe it is in service anymore. I'm sure you'll get a more definitive answer shortly...

It is supposed to be the ill fated CLAMPS mine laying system. I don't know if it ever made it past trials or not, but it was rarely used.

OK, I just pulled the Concord M1a1/A2 book which has a color plate.
It refers to the equipment as a CLAMS (Cleared-Lane Marking System) box made in Israel. It also states the system is no longer in use

We got them in the 1989-90 time frame in Gemany. Other than that, I haven't seen them installed on an M1 series tank since then. I do not recall having them around during the Gulf War, but that doesn't mean anything. Nate's right, it's called the CLAMS as opposed to CLAMPS.
