Cool dio lespaul, if you had a larger dio space, maybe you could add a captured and modded vehicle used by the Russians. That would make it more interesting.

Anyway sweet dio and tank

Wow this looks great!
It looks like real mud to me, how did you do it? I also like how the mud looks thinner where the tank is
The figures also look good, they could be the best from you? I'm liking the shading on the trousers, not too harsh but looks really good, can't wait to see more of this
What are your other plans for it?

Hello, it's moving along nicely. You could run the tank over some sand paper to flatten the bottom of the tracks to give it a more weighted appearance , or build up a little more mud around the edges of the tracks to give that 'heavy weight" look to the tank. A blown up piece of Russian armor for the troops to pass by make look cool. Keep up the good work on the 1/48

Hello Paul, making dioramas is fun and you can experiment a lot with all the materials you can get.
To make the mud look real and to add variation, you can brush on gloss varnish in places. Especially if it's fresh wet mud. You can also play with the hight of the grasses.

I look forward to the paintwork on the figure.

Cheers mate, Guy.

ehhh ya cheeky sod! im just looking for a " lost " figure on my riverfront diorama, then it will be painted + complete, im to scared to do a roof for the building.!
Hey Richard!, there arent that many options in 48th for german material in use by the soviets, i havent heard of much to be honest anyway, anyway im tryign to keep this small and simple so my mind dosent wander i was thinking of adding something rusty, i like rust !(lol)
thanks willow, although you probably wont see what i get up to when you abandon me and go to china..... mud was just stipples with a paintbrush and repeated pressing of the kv inot the road area,
Hi Greg, i was doing the sand thing this afternoon, i was thinking, " hmm, as the plaster was thin and i couldnt press anything into it, ill tey said technique!" great minds think alike!,
what gave the scale away? the giant 50 ml tamiya paint pots?
Hello Guy, im aiming for a dry dark mud im currently, drybrushing tans and browns over it to make it look lighter! and the grass height is goign to vary a lot, it will look like a big flat paintbrush by the time it was done if i didnt vary that, i have basecoated the figures jacket, and have done the eyes and some facia shading, although not entirely happy with that i may leave it as it took a while for me not to dislike how it turned out!

thankyou for the feedback so far, i hope to complete this very soon,
Richard and Guy, please , call me james! my ould guitar was a lespaul and lespauljames stuck, if it was up to date it would be , explorer james, or cheap indian 1980's strat copy james, amd they dont sound as good

thanks guys, the grass aint too dreat, but its better then having no undergrowth, so i make a compromise there, the mp40 basell has snapped off and dissapeared so i ised some lead wire for repairs ( not that accurate but better than a sawn off) do you think i should use much more tall grass, would it look good?

Hi James. Dont be afraid to finish ... get stuck in .... because you learn more by the mistakes you make, than what you get right first time. As your confidence and skills develop, the mistakes get less, and the quality increases. If you donīt tackle certain items, it will always limit your ideas and then the results. You gotta keep experimenting ... the best dio builders didnīt get there over night either.

IMO, the best way to make grass and groundwork, is to keep it as varied as possible. Use different grasses, of different lengths, and other plants, leaves, moss, stones, etc.
When you have a flat area, like your lower level, its hard to get the "grass" right, as its open and there is no other details. Therefore your grass needs to be "perfect" as its the only detail. Something as simple as a rock can break it up, but things like tree stumps, discarded barrels, a fence, more figures, etc are easy to add in and give the viewer something else to see. This is why its good to plan in advance, so your not left with this problem when its nearly finished.

Hello james! x

The dio is looking better with the extra grass, and the other extra bits on the floor give a more interesting feel. The figure also looks great, i hope you're proud is this an almost finnished dio now? appart from a little on the figure and the new figure coming of course!
