In my quest to finish another long lasting project, I am putting the finishing touches on Trumpeter's LAV-25. I needed a crew serve/anti-aircraft gun for the commanders station, because the kit is lacking. This gun appears to be a modified M60 similar to those used by helicopter door gunners. I came up with this, using Evergreen styrene and photo-etch "left overs".

I should have a finished product soon. I painted the vehicle today using the 3 color NATO scheme. I think this will be a IFOR/SFOR LAV, just for something different.

Enjoy,
Mark Lopiccola

Very nicely detailed...but you should be looking for something along the lines of the M240D....not an M60.

That's the FN MAG gun isn't it...? You know, I thought about it, but I couldn't find one in my parts boxes. I might have one in my stash (off location). I think this the same gun used on the Abrams?

Thanks for the come back.

yep the M240 (like the M249) is an American adaptation on the FN MAG and FN Minimi, respectively. The 240 is the machine gun mounted on the LAV.

We used the M60D on the M48A5 tanks (loader and TC's machine gun) before the M240 came around. Some of the basic differences between the D and the regular M60 was no foregrip and no butt stock; it fired from a pair fof butterfly grips and had a circular anti-aircraft style sight that flipped up.

It may be the wrong gun, but that's great detailing for something so small.

I think I have a 240 in my spares. let me know if you need it.

cheers,
Sean
