Im doing some research for a Challenger 2 early that im planning to build. The particular tank is from the combined arms training centre and is an OPFOR vehicle. These tanks appear to be fitted with some sort of training devices, but im struggling to find any details of these devices. The few pictures I have show com sort of wiring running down the barrel and some kind of device fitted in the end of the barrel. There is also some sort of device fitted to the side of the TOGS box as well as what looks like a lamp or loud speaker next to the right side smoke discharger.
If anyone has some information and details on these devices it would be greatly appreciated.

Hiya
The system is called Direct Fire Weapons Effect Simulator (DFWES) and are used mainly for TESEX on salisbury plain.
The speakers above the smoke dischargers simulate the sound of the weapons firing while the laser fitted into the barrel replicates the main weapons capabilities, when fired it sends a signal to the master system indicating wether its killed or damaged or missed enemy vehicles and troops, level of damage etc.
The vehicles and troops are also fitted with receptors which will set off an alarm when hit or in the case of vehicles they can be set to immobilise the vehicle if necessarry.
Hope that helps.
