Hey,
A long time ago i,ve built the Monitor from Nimix.
Now,in spite of i,ve no room for another one,i want to build the the PGM MK-49 Monitor River Boat from Masterpiece Models.
But,maybe it is a little bit stupid,i,m confused and need your help.
Opening the box i saw a lot of styrene and there are two kinds of round styrene,"thick and thin".
I don't know and can't see it on the photo from the Monitor where i,ve to use the "thick" styrene.
Do i need it for the bar armor on the front of the Monitor.
Is it for the two guns???
Or is it for the bar armor from the gun on the front???
I'll hope somebody can help me with this.
Thanks
Ronaldo

You might want to ask over at Model Shipwrights as well. You might also try emailing the people at Masterpiece Models if they give an email address somewhere in their instructions.
If I had to guess, I think the thick rods might be used for the vertical posts of the bar armor while the thin rods are used for the horizontal bars of the bar armor. I don't think the use is restricted to any one spot but for all of the bar armor.

Nice work on the Nimix Monitor, Ronaldo. Would love to see a closer picture of it...
I've got this kit waiting for some time to free up and was wondering if you had any problems with the kit...
Thanks and keep up the great work. Love the Riverine stuff --- and Masterpiece Models kits look fantastic!! I am drooling over their release of the PACV, which is a Holy Grail kit of mine! Now I just have to figure out how to afford it!
Keep up the good work!
Regards and Aloha,
Johnny B.

Well looking at the photos and at the amount of rods, it seems that the thicker rods are used for the front upper turret gun. Just a thought.
Great model, I too would like to see more photos as well progress photos of the next one. I have the 1/32 Verlinden resin water line landing craft that one day I plan on converting it into a ATC Tango river boat with a huey sitting on top.
Happy Modeling,
Joe

Have nobody built this Monitor or other models from Masterpiece??? i can't find it on the internet.
Gary:
I don't think the people at Masterpiece Models are willing to answer my questions. Before i bought two of their models i asked them several times if they could write a lawer value on the custompapers because i had to pay 19% tax here in the Netherlands. They promised me several times to do so.
So i was a little bit " surprised" (Do they have to lie to sell their models????)when i heart what i had to pay at the postoffice and sent them an angry mail.
Johnny:
I've built this Monitor a long time ago,in the nineties,i don't think i had problems with it because i can't remember it anymore.
I know i needed a lot of patience and a big saw for all the resin, you could built another ship with it.
Joe:
I'm thinking to buy a camera,so i can take more photos of the diorama and progress photos of the PGM MK-49.
I'll think you're right about the front upper turret gun.
Thanks
Ronaldo

Ronaldo,
I replied to you over on model shipwrights but I don't know if you saw that reply?
I have been looking at this photo
It seems to me that the bar armor around the front bow section and also around the front howitzer is thicker that the bar armor around the deck housing and the rear two guns.
I have the Zippo, C&C, Tango and PACV from Masterpiece models waiting to be built (just not sure where they are going to go when I do build them?). I must agree that the instructions do leave a bit to be desired and the flash on the earlier kits could test the patience of a saint! I'm working on the PACV because just like Johnny it too is my ultimate model and I couldn't wait to get started on it, the casting and flash seems much better on this one so it is progressing nicely.
I hope this helps.
David

First off, Masterpiece Models is the just the distributor. They probably have no idea what parts to use. The maker is Brown Water Enterprises, which can be reached here.
Second, you seem to be contradicting yourself here. Yes, you do want them to lie to sell their models. If they are caught in a lie about the actual price to avoid customs fees for you, they will be in trouble and be fined for falsifying documents. So it is O.K. for them to lie if it is in your favor, then when they don't, you accuse them of being liers. I don't get it.
It also sounds like you got some good info from other members. I say build it so it looks right to you. If the bars are a little larger in one area, so what?

Gino,
Sounds like Masterpiece is the maker while Brown Water made the master for the kit.
Ronaldo,
The link to Brown Water should be very useful once they update their Model section with a tutorial on the Program 5 Monitor(H). You may find looking at some of the other tutorials they have there to be helpful http://brownwater.net/ProductionModels.asp.

OK, they are the ones who cast up and market the kits then. They still most likely know nothing about how to put them together. Like you said, the best bet is to go to Brown Water Enterprises for the answer.

David,
I had not seen it.It seems you're right about the the bar armor around the front bow section and around the front howitzer, but then 8 rods is not enough. Is that by accident and must i buy some more or are we wrong.
My first Monitor was from Nimix, the instructions and the casting from Masterpiece are much better.
Thank you for your help.
Gino,
Partly you're right,i've asked them to lie and now i accuse them of being liers, but i don't understand you don't get it.
When i ask them several times if they are willing to write down a lower price because i want to buy two models and explain them why i asked this and they promise me several times to do so and then they don't,that's lying.
For me such a lie to a customer is something else then what i asked. Why didn't they say to me,no we can't do that.
Gary and Gino,
