Hi Guys!

This is going to be my build log of Pawel's SA-4 Ganef. I just started with the suspension and I have a question about the tracks. Is there a AM offering or plastic variant? (just curious as the tracks which came in the kit are oke)

Next time I will make some photos on the progress. Cheers!

Hi Jurjen, the first build-log here in this forum on this fine kit!
I canīt wait to see some picture of your progress.

edit: For the tracks...I have no information about an after-market set. The SA-4 vehicle based on the AT-T towing-vehicle, for which are no tracks are available. Someone may correct me, if Iīm wrong.

edit #2:
The tracks look like the same as T-54/55. But for the AT-T / SA-4 Ganef, you probably need 2 sets, as the vehicle is somewhat lengtened. (it has 7 road-wheels/rollers, instead of 5 for the tanks)
Friulmodel has metal-tracks.

greetings...

I am not 100% sure right now, but the AT-T was developed from T-54/55 and the 2K11 was its own development, so to speak, from the "Izdeliya 100 series" chassis. So the tracks are unique so far as I know, being only on vehicles developed from that chassis, like the "Pat Hand", 2S3, 2S4, 2S5, and GZM.

So sorry, no aftermarket tracks. Besides, the ones Pawel made are pretty darn good...are you just being extra picky Jurjen?

Hi Jurjen,

the tracks between the BAT or AT-T and the SA-4 a very different.

I think, that the track in the kit is right.

Thank you all, for the information on the tracks. My quick research was based only on wikipedia, not on real photos.

My not quite 100% sure assessment was correct, the 2K11 system has unique tracks. The kit tracks are correct and no, you cannot get any after market ones.

But if you scratchbuild your own 2S3, you have the suspension done already!

Thanks for the information guys! I assumed that the suspension of russian tracked vehicles were mostly covered by the plastic manufacturers or AM companies.

By the way, don't be shocked! I'm a total noob with resin (well not really, I just made a dumb mistake with removing the resinblocks..) So I needed to make my own hull. It was not that difficult as I could use the measurements from the resin hull. Pawel did a very good job, no offense! I just screwed it up.

This is the hull in progress.

OH COME ON Jurjen...first, you will probably beat me to completion, but now you are doing it by making your own entirely new upper hull. Will my shame never end?

(Actually, it will. I am close to finsihing my two M60A3 builds, then I will have some of my own time. Finally.)

Looking forward to seeing you complete this, new upper hull and all.

Hello my dear fellow modelers

Small update on the hull.

This shape was sofar the most difficult to make

Anyway:

Are there any scale drawings available?

Cheers!

how did you do that, I mean, how can you destroy your hull by removing the resin blocks?

Hmm, also I thought about this question. Was it impossible, to use superglue to fix that?
How was it broken?

Nothing was broken. The resinblock on the front of the hull needs to be cut away and sanded down from 4 different angles. The problem with resin is that when mistakes happen, they're very difficult to solve. Due to the material and the need of superglue, which always gives a mess. On the other hand, by scratching the hull you can make your own little changes and it is just fun to do. The hull is fairly easy to do instead. No fancy curves and what so-ever.

Cheers!

may I advise you next time to scribe the resin blocks a few times with a panel scriber and then to cut them off with a , what's that called in English, a "tangetje". You know what I mean The bit under the hull can be removed with wet sandpaper glued on a stick and lots of water.

Hmm, youīre right. Scratching (for fun) is a good idea, when one is able to do that. ;-)
On the other side, I (for myself) can not build something. I have "two left hands" with these things. ;-)
My one and only part was a wooden box made of plastic, for my (unfinished) s.K.18 dio. But itīs not useable for this.
