Hi Guys
Im planning to build Tamiya´s old M42 Duster. I have the AFV Club indy tracks and wheel set, and also the Eduard etch. When looking through reference images of the real thing on location in Vietnam, the ammo clips are very apparent.
I was doing to some searching tonight after suitable 40mm ammo, and found the Lion Roar set (I believe its for Italeri´s Bofors). I´m wondering if they would be suitable for the Duster? Im also wondering if there are any suitable ammo boxes available.

In the image below, there is a run of boxes under the sandbags. Does anybody know what kind of boxes they are?

All help and tips are appreciated very much. Cheers

As antiaircraft rounds, yes, they are perfectly suitable. I'm not sure (from the photos) whether they would match in the finest details any spacific US ammof of the Vietnam period (I don't know if any new ammo was developed by the US). The Duster used Bofors L/60s and they all have the same chamber sizes so they could all fire the same ammo.

Thats the important part ... the finest detail being slightly different ... I can live with. The rounds are so obvious on the vehicles, I need something, and these are probably the best I´ll get?

Regarding the boxes ... Graeme Davidson believes these are the ends of the 40mm ammo cans used. More of them are stacked vertically in the background. Using that info, I did some more googling and found these...

They were labelled "40mm Mk1 mod8". Does anybody know of an AM company that makes these? Its a nice detail, and would be great to include some of them in the scene ... maybe in the same fashion.

Hi Frank,

Feels good to know that my old Duster got a new loving home. Everytime I feel that sting of loss caused by the separation, I use to remind myself of what an exellent job you did on the M8, and then I know that it was the best thing that could happend.

The only set that I know of that contains those ammo cans are one from ADV/Azimuth:

Looking forward to see it on C4 this fall ;-)

Ha det!

Tjena Erik! Thanks for the info. Have ordered two of these sets today. I think having it ready for the C4 is a little optimistic but hopefully it´ll be ready for the Open next year.
The idea is starting to gather momentum at the moment. Im planning a bit of a diorama-base also.

If anybody is wondering why Im building a Vietnam model ... this is the guy to blame

There were rumours circulating that AFV Club would release this ... they have a lot of the details already ... wheels, tracks, lower hull, bofors, etc. Hopefully your dream will come true!
