Just begun this beaut little Trumpeter KV-1E.
Kit goes together like a charm and I have drilled holes above the appliqué armour between the return rollers to allow insertion of thin metal (steel) wire to create track sag. Trumpeter tracks hold no fear for me anymore. Black cotton sewing thread deals with joining them together where CA and model glue cannot.
Does anyone know what the Cyrillic slogan on the turret says?
A club colleague reckons it says...
"This way to Vodka!"
I used a turned aluminium barrel to replace the kit F-32 76mm gun. A inexpensive investment of US$1.10
cheers

Interesting subject, Michael. Will watch your build with interest as I've never heard of this particular KV variant. Good start!:)
Cheers,
Jan
PS- Can you post a picture of the Cyrillic slogan as I have a Russian friend that might translate.

Oops! No turret slogans image!
This is boxart for the 1:35 Trumpeter kit. Wish they did box art like that for their 1:72 range! The markings for both scales are the same.
Cheers
Mike

I noticed that while reading a couple of KV books I purchased on the weekend, Trumpeter got the model number wrong.
It should be KV-1E not KV-1S as per the kit. I will go with blaming Trumpeter [:)]
Cheers

After much further ado at the lower Urals Tractor factory, the result is as below.....
Base is next!
Hope to be finished this shortly. The first (technically) finished build for 2010!
cheers

Congratulations, Michael for being "first out the gate." I'd forgot all about this build. It seems that for it you've adopted MY building speed. Very effective colour modulation of the highlights and shadows. I tried something similar with my SU-85M build so I can appreciate the work and time involved.
Cheers,
Jan

Thanks Jan. I use Vallejo Russian green progressively lightened with yellow ochre. Finally I map centres of panels with yellow ochre dot filter method. It has woked pretty well with this model.

Michael,
That is a handsome and rugged looking little beast! Based on how good your build looks I'll also have to give the color modulation a try on my next build. Both you and Dani did a good job on the track sag - although I don't know if the PST kit already comes with the tracks molded that way or not?
As both Jan and Dani mention, congrates on being 'first out the gate' for a 2010 completed build!
Happy New Year to you and your wife.
