Hi,
probably a daft question but here goes. I have just got a tube of 502 Abteilung oil paint Abt155. German three tone fading. How do you use it??? Do you put little sploges of it over a panel and then blend it with a dampeded flat brush? Like I said daft question but one I need to ask. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm looking to buy this myself, but I'm guessing very thinned out using turps.
I see this is an old thread. How did it work out?

Hi Rob and Russ,
You have the basic idea regarding the use of the 3 toned fading technique. I generally pre-moisten the surface with a little turpentine (just a little) and then add a few dops of the paint onto the surface. And then simply work the oil into the surface using a larger sized (flat) soft brush. The process can be repeated once this application has dried.
Also, I like to add a few drops of other colors into the mix - such as a little Olive green onto the green fields and maybe a little Wash Brown or Brick Red onto the brown fields.
Please don't hesitate to contact me directly if you have any questions:

Have fun,
Rick

Thanks Rik. I'll see how I get on with paint when it comes. I got some white also to simulate dried dust after a rainy spell.

Used the German three tone fading oil paint tonight. Put on a few layers gradually. Quite pleased with it
