I have been scouring the net for almost a whole day now and have yet to find a picture of the Deuce & 1/2's engine. Any one know where I might find one. Want to add some wire and hoses to it, so I can leave the sides of the hood open. Thanks in advance.

I've been looking for a week myself. I've had no luck. I have also been through several books looking for pics to no avail. If I find anything I'll post it here.

hi guys,
if you want engine pics PM your e-mail to me. Don't forget the engines were painted light grey not OD. This is assuming you are after info on the WW2 CCKW (Tamiya kit) and not the 'M' series of trucks (post war)

Hi cliff-- the pics you sent me the other day show the engine as olive drab-- was only certain parts light gray or was it all light gray?? I am about to start the engine painting on my Tamiya kit and am waiting anxiously for a reply-- just want to make sure I get it right!! Thanks in advance....

the complete motor and box were light grey with fittings such as generators and starter motors being semi gloss black. The pics I sent were a restoration where the ownwer painted the whole lot OD and were meant only as general pics of the motor. :-)

Excellent-- thanks a bunch cliff!!

In the book I read about the Red Ball, there is also mention that the oil and water caps, as well as the dipstick, were painted red so that the men who didn't know much about truck maintenance would know to check those things often.

While I did not see an oil disstick on the Tamiya kit, I was able to paint the water cap red.

It looks real good in the light gray....gives a little bit of contrast to most of the rest of the truck in OD.....thanks again!! I think I will leave off one of the panels to better show off the engine....that is after I weather it a bit with some grease

I have read that in hot weather it was common to leave off both the side panels to halp keep the engine cool. I'm doing one with a boom on the front powered by the winch. In that case the panels would be off because of the extra strain on the engine.

you are right Chuck. To aid engine cooling they took the side panels off and I have read some accounts that at night you could see the exhaust manifolds glowing red as the trucks raced along the roads, they were that hot. :-)
