This is a long shot, I know. But I was wondering if there were some sort of reference on the overall climates of different parts of the world. That way, if you want to know how to depict a scene in a location at a certain time of the year, you'd know how people would be dressed, whether water would be liquid or frozen, if there would be snow, etc. So many places, the weather might be what you don't normally expect, e. g. the French mountains being icy in the midst of summer 1940.

What I can say about weather here (between Kurland and East Prussia) - you never know. Rains are often in spring, summer and fall, summer temp. - about 25 C, rarely more. Winters are about -15C, with much snow. As I said - you never know, when will the weather change...

Gosh, I love my country!

Ah, my geography degree isn't going to waste! You might do a search for the Koppen Climate Classification System. It's THE climate classification system use by geographers.

Hope it helps!

You could also try the websites for the US Geological survey or NOAA. They have a lot of links as well. Our temps here run from over 40C in the summer to below -20C in the winter, with generally less than 20% humidity. In the spring and fall you get 30C in the day, -10C at night, rain, snow, heat and dust all in one week.

Nothing exciting ever happened here, but lots of military folks the world over have trained out at Dugway or Toele and the RAF comes to Hill AFB every once in a while. Our west desert runs from one miserable extreme to the other. A friend of mine was a former Ranger and used to train spec ops people in desert warfare here.

I have several atlas's that I us for terrain and weather. They sometimes have a section on local critters and plants.

Thanks all.

I brought it up when I thought of how Japan, China, and the Pacific Islands were at different times of the year. Manchuria I could find everything by looking it up, but other parts of the world (such as Shimushu Island) I could find nothing on even by using Google. I figured I could get at least enough information to guess by looking up climate to figure out how things looked, how people around would be dressed, etc.
