Looking to complete the DML Volkssturm Berlin figures #6173. They are shown wearing several wrist cuffs, including yellow Volkssturm ones. Can't find any from Archer, so am hoping for guidance here.

Verlindon has a set of German uniform insignia, I think it's #802. It has one yellow wrist band but even with my mags I can't make out the writing. Alot of black browns and tans.

I have that set, but it doesn't look convincing, and there is, as you point out, only the one indistinct yellow band. Don't know if others besides VS had yellow wrist cuffs.

Looked through all the many 1/35th Peddinghaus decals and none have Volkssturm.

The term didn't come up in Eduard's site. Perhaps someone has a reference number?

I don't understand why Dragon can't provide a tiny sheet of decals for details like this.

I think I remember seeing some go past from Eduard, but I can't tell from the image.

Is it just me or doesn't this just scream out as a product for Archer to do?
I had asked them about it a while back and they thought it would not generate enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Volkssturm bands had quite a lot of variation, but are pretty well documented. I'm not a buisnessman, but with the figure sets already out there, plus the resin figures, I would think a small set 6-8 bands (sort of like the interior placards sets) would sell.

TechStar did a set of PE wrist bands, (number TC1028) unfortunately I can't read them even with my super lens. But then I admit my eyes don't see as well as the use to. (Had eye exam today, and it really time to spring for new glasses.

Lion Roar recently relased a set of decal wrist bands, #35111. Same eye comments apply.

Those look like the answer. Thanks, Dave. Won't know if they work until they arrive, but, hey, the price isn't too bad.

I never heard of a yellow wrist cuff, only red-black-red one with an eagle and DEUTSCHER VOLKSSTURM WEHRMACHT like that one http://www.dhm.de/lemo/objekte/pict/20020390/index.jpg

Never say "never." This from the Reddick Militaria site:

The illustration for the kit is from Ron Volstad who researches his paintings quite meticulously from what I've been told.

I don't know much about German stuff, BUT--- that is an ARM BAND, not a cuff title.
The Loin Roar set is for CUFF TITLES!

The illustration shows the guy just wearing it on his forearm. Even Reddick site defines it as "Deutscher Volkssturm Armband - Cotton"

Now I'll have to go through my collection looking for armbands. But I don't recall ever seeing a yellow one, but give me a little time, and I'll see what I have.

You're correct, Consigliere. I found a blow-up of the LR set and its cuff bands, and none for the Volkssturm.

The longer this goes on, the more tempted I am to write a nasty review of the kit and bemoan the lack of decals.

It's not something the average human could paint on at that scale. Yes, I can leave them off, but I suspect these dudes would've worn them and it makes me mad Dragon didn't include a small set of decals.

Maybe you could just print them with your computer. I once made one of those for a captured Russian, saying "HILFSWILLLIGER - WEHRMACHT" it took some testing but it worked. I simply glued it to the finished figure. The one I made was just black and white so I can't really tell if those colours resist plastic glue.

Hi Bill

I believe this set in the scheme of things is quite old and made even before the introduction of Gen2 figures on to the market. You do get the guys spectacles though as tiny photoetch

Sure, it's disappointing that these are not included as a set of decals but if you wanted to be that critical you could say that about every figure set. Off hand I don't know one Dragon 1/35 scale figure set, including Gen2 that includes cuff titles of any type. The nearest is Dragon set 6277 which does includes divisional arm shields for the Georgian Legion. I don't think any other figure maker in 1/35 scale does them either with their figures but I'll happily stand corrected on that.

Dragon make lots of SS figures and many soldiers displayed their divisional cuff titles, even on combat uniforms but I don't recall seeing one set with these included as a decal. That's it seems has always been left to the aftermarket companies to step in.

Maybe Dragon will bring this set out again, as they do, given the "Premium" treatment and labeliing, including the Gen2 weapons set and the missing armbands as decals.

Alan, I agree with you about most sets, but that's because the super-accurate modeler can avail himself or herself (women DO model!) of after-market sets of cuff bands, collar and lapel straps. Archer, for example, has a ton of them.

But with this set, three of the four figures sport arm bands that simply can't be had for love or money. So I think the manufacturer has let the modeler down. I don't HAVE to use PE to finish a tank kit, it's a choice for additional realism. But in this case, there is no way to paint these arm bands in that scale, even though the painting instructions give you the color schme!!
