Can anyone offer advise on how to make wooden ammo crates from scratch.
or even wooden boxes...I need external tank stowage and id rather not run to a hobby shop when i need stowage, just want to try and make it myself.

Thanks.

I have sandwiched several peices of basswood or balsa to get the individual wood slats for the top of the box, and then carefully scribed along the solid piece side to immitate the top and bottom boards. Carefully recess the ends and glue a flat piece on. It's not as time consuming as it sounds and looks the part. Option two is to use plastic scrap and scribe the boards and texturing on the surface. Or make them out of putty and do the same.

GC Laser Products makes a whole line of real wood ammo boxes, among other things.
Would save you from scratching them, as the boxes are all pre-cut for you. Just use a knife to cut out the attachment points, glue, and viola.
I have some in my shop here, but not sure what you are looking for.

Your milage may vary.
Sorry about the size and quality of the photos. They were taken years ago when I first joined the site, and digital cameras and editing were new to me.
Hope that helps.

That's a very nice step by step Dave
If you have an idle moment (LOL ) you should redo the photos and add them as a SBS article.
