It's a great idea with a 1:35 French railroad station, I could use one of those.

When I saw your reference picture it didn't really seem to look like a station to me, but something else. I searched a bit and discovered that it is actually a school in Kansas:

Why not be inspired by real French stations like this:

Chris, i think that using a Kansas school to do a French railway station is a bit gross, but well maybe it will turn out to be a good kit.
Still why not being inspired by the real thing? if it's the lack of details of "ordinary"railway station that stops you, why not searching a bit deeper?
here is a page from a book I own which is a about stations 1837->1937, I think you will agree that those are not featureless

Good luck with your building anyway
