whats a good tool to use to cut the extra resin off from parts with out damaging the part that your cutting out of the resin?

Use a razor saw for getting the plug off.

I use for many parts a scriber. I scribe a few time around the part and then it snaps of easily, if if it's a big pour plug. it takes some practice but at least you have no saw dust.

I use a UM razor saw for resin.
