Hey everyone, I had this idea after conpleting several IDF M60's. What if the USMC did not go with the M1 but decided to upgrade the M60 instead?
So I thought that I would start by upguning to a 120mm and adding a 1 1/2 to the turret. I thought that I would and EAAK to the turret sides and sideskirts. The only part I'm having problems with is the commander's coupola. This is my first "what if", so comments / sugestions are welcome.

Have you seen pictures of the uparmored/upgunned 120mm armed M60 called, I think, the 'Sabra"? It sounds like that is what you would be a lot of what you are looking for.
My W.A.G. for your project would include a CROWS II mount, USMC style grenade launchers, The IR missile counter measures device, etc...
I would me thinking, M60A1 TUSK
Have fun with it.

This was the Jordanian Phoenix Upgrade for the M60. It is an interesting concept, along the lines of the M60-2000. There are photos of it with ERA and with ballistic side skirts. Likewise the turret it pictured with ERA and applique spaced armor.

You could go with something like the sabra or late model IDF magach series of M60?
Here is the sabra it is an export version that the Israelis produce.

The Iranians have modelled their Zulfiqar MBT on M48/60 technology "blended" with T72 components. I don't really know how successful this is - I have always thought the M48-60s to be way too tall and based on an outdated platform, even WITH upgrades.

It would have been interesting to see what the verdict on the type would have been if the M60A2 had been successful and the M48A4 had gone into service.

Wasn't there a version with a slightly updated hull and an Abrams turret? I thought I saw a photo somewhere, although with my memory going the way it is...
Edit - Found it, wasn't dreaming after all!

thank everyone for your input. The photos are a real help, The commander's coupola does not seem to be changed. I was thinking of adding a mark-19 or something to give it that little something extra. What do you all think?

I got bored between jobs at work and found this, sounds like a neat idea. Any progress? The M60 with the M1 turret looks like a good way to make use of an Academy M1....

The upgraded M60 in service with the Turkish Army (designated M-60T in Turkey) is based on the Israeli Sabra Mk.II configuration: it is equipped with the same 120mm gun used in Merkava 3/4 and has ERA armor. Unlike the other M60 modernization projects mentioned in this thread, the M-60T is a reality and around 150 of them are already in service..

The M120S was offered solely for the Turkish Army M60 upgrade program and when it didn't win the upgrade was dropped and is no longer marketed. There was at least one prototype.

I'd like to see pics....
I use a photo-hosting website (photobucket) and go from there. Once your pics are on photobucket, or some thing similar, it's pretty simple.
In fact, I think there's a "how-to" somewhere on this website.....
