Hello there,
After being on this forum for a while now and posting the odd reply I decided to start a W.I,P, for myself. The project is a french house for the diorama I'm building for my Dragon Tiger 1 (zimmerit) that I'm building at the moment. It should look something like this:
I'm building the house with 'moodboard' and cork.
After the cork I applied plaster:
The doors are made of an old orangebox.
I will keep you informed about my progress.....

Hey Martin,
The Building looks great. What did you use for the roof? I looks like the inside of card board. Please let me know!!
Keep up the great work and I will keep an eye on your build.
Thanks
Mike

Hello Mike,
Indeed it is a bit of cardboard box; but a very sturdy one. It was a small piece and I can't remember were I got it from. I tried normal carboard an it was not strong enough. This carboard however was a dream to work with...even after gluing it with dilluted glue it stayed in shape.
Too bad I got only a very small patch left...for my next house I've to try something different.
Thanks for watching
Martin

Hi again,
Next on the agenda for teh farmhouse is the rain gutter....
The gutter is made of a straw; the brackets from the lead from a winebottle.
The rainpipe is made of sprue.
Sorry for the poor quality of the photos.

Good morning ,
Thanks for all the replies. yesteday I did some more wordk on the house;
I removed the hinges of the barn door (didnt like them) and replaced them with new ones.
I also made a doorframe in the small door. I added some damage to both doors and put some holes in them. I also added some electrical/telephone wire to the outside of the house. The pictures will follow as soon as possible.

I like the composition of the building - shape, texture, overall appearance.
I like the way the paster over the odd shaped 'stones' looks - nice.
Keep the posts coming.

Good evening....
I promised some pictures; here they are.
The small holes in the door will be partly covered bij paint (I hope) so they won't be so prominent.
Till next time.......

Hi there,
Still not happy with the way this house goes; today I'm gonna scrap the shutters on the windows. I will make new ones that will sit on the wall, not in it ( if you understand what I mean) For that I wil have to purchase some new balsa...the wood from the orangebox is much too thick. At the moment I'm thinking how to make the ornaments on the wall...the experiment I did with solderwire and lead didin't go very well.......anyone any suggestions?
gretings,
Martin
p.s. Mike, I'm still trying to find out were I found the cardboard I used for the roof..........

Hi there,
I finished the new shutters.
After this I sprayed the whole house with a beige primer.
As you probably can see both the doors look terrible like this; I have to do a lot of cleaning up.
After the cleanup I will continue with the brush....till then,
greetings
Martin

Hello there,
Did some painting today.
The whole house is in it's basic colors; next step will be weathering with wash, drybrus and pigments.
After this I'm going to build a latrine to place next to the house.
Till then......

Wow, the house looks nice! Hmm, the wooden doors perhaps needs some after-work.
They look a bit like "fresh painted".

Hello Soeren,
You're right about the doors but the whole house will get some afterwork.
It's all much too clean now. First I will apply a coat of varnish and let it harden out for a while; so the next update will take some time I'm afraid.

Looks simply GREAT. Thank's for sharing the tips like the cork etc. That house can easily compete with commercial offerings.
Someone asked about the roof:
Some packing boxes are made of "corrugated cardboard" between to flat sheets of cardboard. Normally on can (carefully) remove one of the flat sheets

Hello there,
Tonight I finished the weathering of the farmhouse. Not completely satisfied by the roof but I will see what I will do with it.
Next I will be finishing the latrine and then the base of the diorama.
I'll keep you posted.............

Martin,
Honestly , in the middle of your work, after the big holes in the doors and the priming of the wood, i did not think that you would finish with such an attractive house. You saved the situation pretty good and have a nice scratchbuild house you can be proud off.
Next time you try to keep the wood as wood, unpainted, just oils, that will save you a lot of trouble.
Well done!
Claude
