Congratulations Bob, apparently you can teach an old dog a new trick. Give yourself a Scoobie Snack. Seriously, nice work as usual. Your ground work is amazing, I love the cattails. Great composition and execution of the scene. If it was a black and white photo, you'd think it was real. The flesh tones on the figures look very good to me. It is hard to make out any facial detail in the photos. One thing, you could use a little more shading on the equipment, like around the canteen cover flaps. A very cool diorama. Al

Hi Bob,

a really nice dio did you make. I like the thick jungle and the water. It has actually much of the look I want to achieve for my Mighty Wheels campaign project, which is a Vietname soldier struggling wih his fully packed bike through water in the jungle. Do you have some pictures of the construction of the dio? What did you use for plants and water?

Thanks Al, and yup, gear needs more highlighting.
Spaarnammer, Thanks too. The plants are leaves cut to shape and glued to a wire stem with a drop of glue on top, then painted. Same with the lily pads. Round wire with paper pad and little white flower from the last I bought for the wife. Bringing home flowers for her keeps me out of trouble and the little tiny fillers they put in the batch of flowers usually work for things like that. The yellow ones are from there too, just bunched up tight together and glued down. Thinking of your other half pays off. And sadly, the in progress pics got dumped while I was struggling to do the photo down load thing. The water is future floor polish, takes alot of small pours as it evaporites real good, but it is very clear so you can see he bottom off the swamp. It's also easy to use an eyedropper to get into small areas around the plants.

And a BIG THANK YOU to all who helped me get the photo thing to finally work. That had to be as frustrating as putting together a sci-fi resin kit without a direction sheet and no wall available. Though it took awhile, the pics are finally here. I can't remember all who helped over the last few months, but thank you all. bob d.

Outstanding dio Bob! You make dense foliage look so natural and easy to do. Great layout and finish. Thanks for sharing this.
Cheers!

great work! i ahve seen this before but was a little busy sorting out new job things
the layout and feel are brilliant, but as echoed above, you would shade the figures a little more.!

Nice job, I like the way the plants and water come together. It supports the ground action very nicely. Kudos

What a good small diorama ! There's much to discover, I can almost feel the exitement of the figures in the water, silently moving forward to surprise the opponent. And I love the work you've spent on the trees, they look fabulous !
Especially the 3rd photo is stunning. In black and white they would look the part and I hope you show us a couple of those.

Great looking scene, great foilage! Do you have any WIP-Pics? And can you tell us more about the historical background (does it depict a particular battle or unit)?

Cheerio!

Thank you for the feed back everyone. Unfortunitly, the WIP photos got dumped out of the computer while trying to download the photos during my months long (I can do this I think) photo download session. It is just one of my generic vin., I don't usually do a specific battle, it's more like what comes together as I look at the figures and wait for the light to come on. This one came together because of a chunk of coal I found that looked like an old weather erroded rock. The rest just kind of falls into place. This weekend I will try to get some better pics (still ging through the learning prosses with camera) of the figures. The trees are tree roots with some wire limbs where needed, leaves glued one by one and painted one by one, makes you feel like an old slow mother nature, but they were fun to build. There are ferns, mushrooms and a Korean rat snake but I need better pics. I had just changed to Vallejo paints for my figures flesh and decided to go all out on the base as I was real happy with the way the figures came out. Makes me want to go back and repaint all my old stuff. And James, there is a whole bunch in the pipe, and the closet, and the cabinet, and the ... Nothing specific as far as the moment, just a Mt. valley swamp in Korea. Wanted something just a little different this time.

Very freakin' cool Bob!! Really a nice dio.

The long leaved plants in the water are just paper that you cut? Really? Thay look very good.

The only critique I would like to throw out is try to paint a darker shade of green around where the uniforms hit the water to give the impression of wet uniforms.
Other then that it's really good.

Bill.

Bill, The dummy I am at times. When I added the water (future polish) I worked it up the legs to show wet pants, took it right up to the darker color when I should have stopped just below. It's hard to see but it's there. Used copy paper for the bullrush's as the fibers are denser, hence stronger. I made a grapf on the paper using marks at 5/10/15 ect up to 30 m.m. cut to shape and wound the bottom on wire and glued to another wire with a dab of hick glue on top for the seed pod, dry and paint. Leave a little open wire on the bottom to glue into hole and instant swamp plants.
