They say that holographic confetti works, so long as you get the little bits that have the right colour range (orange-to-purple, if memory serves).

I use the printing material from a photo printer, it is a clear acetate in pink, yellow, blue, black and clear. I glue it to the plastic using PVA glue and then trim the acetate when the glue is set.
