I bought a few bottles of Tamiya acrylic paint recently and have really enjoyed using them. I have a question. I build a lot of Tamiya Corsairs and for the Dark Sea Blue (or US Navy Blue as the instructions call them) for the Tri-color scheme, or overall Dark Sea Blue, the instructions say to use Tamiya paint AS-8. I am very confused as I know of only of the X-gloss paints and XF flat paints. AS-8 isn't even on www.tamiyausa.com
I looked at the chart and I thought XF-17 Flat Sea Blue would be the same thing. It also looks that XF-18 Medium Blue is a good match of Intermediate Blue. If I could avoid mixing paint I would appreciate it as I am not a very experienced modeler. Can someone help me out?

IMHO, dump the Tamiya paint and go with ModelMaster if you're trying to match colors. While exact matches are nearly impossible, you can get a whole lot closer using FS and ANA colors in the MM range than the range Tamiya has had on the rack for almost 20 years with not a single addition or adjustment to meet recent developments.

AS stands for Aerosol Spray. The AS numbers refer to their line of rattle can paints.

I'm with AJ on this one. Testors has the better matches for the navy colors. Aeromaster used to have a good line of paints too, if you can find them.

The AS series of Tamiya are not available in the US .. Try using ModelMaster's acrylics, the consistency and quality of the paint is even better

I like the MM acrylics, though as of later I've had some dark greens that have dried gloss, even after excessive shaking

Actually, the next time you buy a Tamiya kit, you need not strictly follow their paint guide. you can use enamels and acrylics if you like with the aid of an airbrush.

If I may make an additional suggestion. If you got 'em there, try Gunze Sangyo paints. They've got the colors you're looking for in the Corsair (I have one too).
