Just saw on Dragon's site that they will re-issue two old British figure kits with Welbikes. It is just too obvious. I think Dragon wants to kill off Tristar for good.

well....obviously Dragon from Hong Kong has learned well the ways of capitalism. Im not too concerned. This kind of compitition has been great and I have no doubt is half the reason we have so many great kits recenly to choose from. Not only that, but im sure somebody will do a comparison, and one of them will come out the better of the two (lets take the 38t as an example..)

on a related note...here we go again with dragon trying to fit an old figure into a new pose by just changing out the arms.. now he doesnt fit the composition at all (other 3 now in "firefight" mode...or at least preparing to engage the enemy).

the SAS set works a little better, and actully isnt a bad pose. We will still need to replace the hands with some "gripping" ones.

ill probally end up with some..

I could understand it if Dragon provided some new figures with the release but those sets has been around for a while. And if your interested in Red Devils I think you would go for the set that has the new figures.

Cheers

Interesting that Dragon has chosen to "freshen" its older figure sets in some very imaginative ways (the German pontoon set, for example), while new Gen 2 launches have all but dried up. Wonder if they didn't sell well?

Dragon are a great company. They have 1000 times the distribution network of Trister so they licence the Trister product or buy the molds and Trister make 100 time the cash. Simply put.

With the extra cash flow Trister can do more risky releases then Dragon, its all good.

From Tristar's kit photos, I think Dragon's is new tooling of its own. The details look quite different.

There does seem to be a misplaced (?) sense of indignation about this release. Personally, I feel that the success will come with the quality of the final product. It also has to be remebered that a Welbike is not exactly the best known vehicle of WWII either. IMO, what Tristar is offering seems a much more attractive package. Unfortunately there do seem to be a number of issues with the DML sets - not least of which that if you want a folded Welbike you have to buy the SAS set and there DO seem to be issues with the Drop Container...
