What would be a good Figure set (Plastic, not resin) to compliment the 1/35 Puma i'm building. Planning on having both turret hatches open & really just need 2 figs for it. One other thing, what were the basic uniform colors for the crews for the Pumas? Thanks.

Hi
You could use the Dragon german tank crew #6375 or #6014 or there Self Propelled Gun Crew #6016 or #6367 if you can find them as there are all nice sets.
Hope this helps.

what were the basic uniform colors for the crews for the Pumas?
Armoured car crews wore the reed green version of the armoured division uniform. The only difference between the (mid-late war) uniforms being the one black, the other green. Ergo, virtually any mid-late war armoured crew would do, just paint the uniform reed green.
Of course if you told us which division (i.e. Heer or WSS), period and theatre/engagement you're modelling it would help for giving you more specific information in addition to perhaps one or two nuances which might make your crew more unique.

Ok, here's the idea (in theory at least). Planning long term on using this in a Dio with a Pak 40. ideally the Puma would have one fig with Binocs and the 2nd fig would be leaning over & yelling to the Pak 40 crew & holding up 1 hand with x-amount of fingers displayed to indicate how many enemy vehicles are approaching. I'm thinking it'll be set in France/Normandy?? I've got to do a little more research, but based on what units were issued Pumas it'd be either the Panzer Lehr, 1SSPZDIV, or 2PZDIV (Gotta verify which one was in France/Normandy). Gotta ask, but what would "Reed Green" be in either Model Master, Tamiya, or PolyS? Thanks for the replies & info so far. greatly appreciated.

Darn T - you're making me question myself Will check references tonight.
Sean, I know you said plastic, not resin, but if you change your mind Alpine recently released a pair of figures inspired by a photo of a Puma A/C crew.

Hmmm... I thought the only difference between the uniforms of Pz unit
and Pz Aufklarung unit was the color of waffen farbe...? Maybe I was wrong here...

Thanks for the replies
Rudi,
Ok, I'll bite. Do you have a link for that Alpine kit (or kit name to google) you mentioned? I'll check it out & if it works I'll take the Resin plunge. Also, what would be "Reed Green" in Model Master, Tamiya, or Poly S? Thanks again,
Sean

Guess you'd better tell these guys they should be wearing reed green not black and tricolour dotted uniforms in their Pumas
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKwPKcPB__0
To be honest I think they wore all three types in various combinations of each. Black, Camo and Reed Green.

To crew my Sdkfz234 vehicles I used the Dragon LAH Russia 1943 tank crew set. They are wearing a one piece camouflaged coverall (they are SS figures - that's because I'm using them for 9th SS vehicles, of course). Many SS panzer units wore this suit, and I figured it would be ideal for recce troops, and I know for a fact that SS Pz Rgt 9 wore them. These coveralls were reversible green/brown "oak pattern". The recce Waffen farbe should be yellow by the way. Be aware if you use standard tank crew, they will not do for the Reed Green clothing, as it had a large distinctive pocket on the left breast, and there are detail differences between SS & Heer panzer jackets, notably the seams in the back, and the size and shape of the lapels. All the units Sean mentioned fought in Normandy. Note that Panzer Lehr seemed to have a penchant for privately made camo jackets made up from shelter quarters in splinter pattern.
There is some well known footage of 12SS Pz Pumas in which the crew are wearing the 1944 Camouflaged Panzer clothing (is that the footage - i can't play it, I'm @ work & we aren't allowed on streaming sites).

Funny You should mention that kit. In looking online, that & the Dragon # 6193 Half-Track crew kit have a fig each that look like they'll work with some modifications. That being said, looks like doing them SS is out of the question due to the uniform style. Guess that leaves the Panzer Lehr Div. Would that be correct (German uniforms are still a weak point for me)? I'm still stuck on the "REED GREEN" color????? Would that be along the likes of Tamiya German Field Grey???? if not, what would be the closest Jar color. My LHS sells Tamiya, Model Master, & PollyS. Thanks for all the info & input!!!!

Ok, I think I got the whole "reed green" thing resolved. So let me ask a few dumb questions so I'm 100% clear. Going with the Panzer Lehr Div and using the two kits mentioned above;
1. Would the whole uniform (cap, pants, jacket) be that color (reed green)?
2. avoiding camo, what other colors would the cap & pants be if I wanted to mix it up a little (or is that unwise from a realistic point of view)?
3. Boots, belt, etc. would be black?
4. piping colors would be pink?
5. any details I've missed????
Thanks & sorry for all the dumb questions!!!!!

SdKfz234 series vehicles were used "mainly" in a heavy platton in
aufklarung (recon) battalion in a Pz and Pz Grenadier Divisions.
In this case, the waffen farbe should be bright yellow. Based on my
limited knowledge and pics I have seen, you can use any uniforms
and combinations of uniforms you want. It's better to work from a
photo if possible. In many cases, it depends on the unit.
1. Would the whole uniform (cap, pants, jacket) be that color (reed green)?
Achtung Jabo figures are wearing HBT summer drill uniforms that began to
appear from 1942. This uniform can be in various shades of reed green or
field grey. I've seen some samples in white as well. I haven't seen this HBT uniforms
in black.
2. avoiding camo, what other colors would the cap & pants be if I wanted to mix
it up a little (or is that unwise from a realistic point of view)?
caps could be in black or field grey. i don't think it's that important.
5. any details I've missed????
check out this site and read the content. It would help:
http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Covers/Germancover.html
Again, nothing is absolute when it comes to late war German uniforms.
Have fun!
