Hi can any one help me with the colours for the Humber scout cars that was in Indonesia for the dutch army and also the placement of decals on the cars.
My Father drove these but all the photos that I have are in black and white, also only photos of the front
He was in the Tijger brigade 2e eskadron 5e peleton Huzaren van Boreel
I am building the Bronco 1/35 Humber scout car kit

Hi,

Think this is an interesting source for you:

http://beeldbank.nationaalarchief.nl/en

As its a Dutch site would recommend using only the vehilce name and Dutch words to search. So e.g.:

Humber
Pantserwagen (= armoured car)
Voertuig (= vehicle)
Huzaren
Bordeel (you might get some results which you're not looking for due to other possible translation of this word )

Also possible are names of places where your father was stationed. In any case there are lots of images available from Dutch East Indies on this site, including good close ups of Humbers and other vehilces showing markings etc. I've been searching this site for 2 or 3 evenings and have gathered a lot of images from it.

As for colour, vehicles used standard British green. I've got a book on the Huzaren van Bordeel which mentions that somewhere late 1949 (some) vehicles received a new 'desert' colour. No further details mentioned, so not sure what colour exactly. I'd go for the usual British green.

Hope this helps. If you need any further help with translations on the site feel free to send me a message.

Is your father one of the men who decided to go to New-Zealand directly from Indonesia instead of heading back to the Netherlands?

Regards,
Martin

Ps. my interest in this subject is for large part caused due to my grandfather being veteran from 5th bat Garde Regiment Prinses Irene - PAG (Pantser Afweer Geschut = Anti-Tank Gun) who operated in area of Padang, Sumatra
