All this panzer IV talk got me to thinking about the old Tamiya Brummbar I have. Is there a more up-to-date rendition of this assault gun? I have a few of these older Tamiya kits that I think I need to get rid of...I know I have the Pz IVD and a Wirbelwind too...

Sabot,
If you can find the DML Brummbar, use that. Tamiya has not as of yet issued a retooled Brummbar. It would be neat to see if someone could kitbash the old Tamiya superstructure with the retooled hull though...

I have a Tamiya Brummbar on the shelf. Its tracks have not been painted yet and some tools have not been attached. It's a nice build although it has the usual Tamiya motorization holes in the usual places. I lost one of the four little round thingies on the superstructure (what the heck are they for anyway? ). Since I want to put a figure on it, does anyone have any references on what the hatch looked like inside? I understand that this is the early version and that the hatch is just flat armor plate. Tamiya's hatch is flat on the inside and it would not look nice as is. Thanks a lot!

Hi Rob,
The DML Brummbar is far superior that the Tamiya ones, and according to some guys in the Hobby shop that had built both, the DML ones are more accurate.
Jeepney,
The round thing, from your description, I will venture a guess that they are pistol port covers, I think I have a couple picture that show the indside of the Brummbar, if you want, please PM me with your email address, I see if I can find them and scan for you.

The DML Brummbar is much better than the old Tamiy kit. The dimensions are much more accurate.
DML also makes a later model with a bow mounted machine gun.
Either Eduard or Verlinden have just come out with zimmerit and schurzen sets for the Tamiya that should help to spruce up this old kit. The detail on the Tamiya kit is really heavy and overly simplified. (Lousy rubber band tracks too! )
Sorry I can't comment more specifically. The Panzer Colors series has a few photos of Brummbars. Mostly in Italy I think.
Interesting in that some had zimmerit on the lower hull (as well as the superstructure) due to their being used in urban areas in close quarters where people would go right into the wheels and tracks to place magnetic charges...

PS - I think the DML late Brummbar may have recently been reissued. There seems to be a lot of them around and I think Squadron had a sale on them a few months ago. (Like $15 or some low-ball price.)

I got mine for around $9 and change. It's the only Tamiya tank that stores here are selling at less than $10.

Hey bros,
Shameless plug here for a resin source to fix the desires of the Brümbar.
Check out Rich Sullivan's site RJ Products and get their Brümbar sets.
besides, the guy who did the master is a friend who owes me $$$. So if you buy, Rich might send him some money. Then again, Rich is owed more than me! #:-)
Really, just throwing in a few other thoughts and trying to have fun!
