The painting has started, now I have to make it look like concrete.

This Lion is just fantastic Guy -will you make a form to mould another one to stand on the other pillar?

Very nice progress. I suspect there will not be a second (since paint has already been applied), it would be nice and a nice piece to cast for other projects.
Nice update - thanks

JBA : no my friend, I'm not patient enough to make a mold to be honest, when I start a project like this lion, I feel like arriving in a twister's eye, I ame for the finish !
I want to make another lion, starting from zero. I must be crazy...
Scott : I had the intention to make a mold, but I just kept going : priming...painting by airbrush...brushes...like a mad man !
Last update for now :
The next step to the finish was done by using an old tooth brush. I pulsed the paint to the lion by rubbing a finger over the brush. Several tones of grey were mixed :
This was the look of it then :
This was my reference photo for the tones :
The finish :
Now it has to dry/harden. When the lion will be glued on the gate wall, I will add mosses and the famous bird poo.
Cheers ! G.

Superbe work Guy, really excellent. The view with the toothbrush is amazing as you see the size (or non-size) of the lion.
Really cool!

I must say guys I'm pretty satisfied of the sculpting result. Tx for your reactions.
Today the gate was done with a plaster/water mixture to fill everything.
But before that I brushed on a thinned wood glue over it for improving the strength of the cork.
Almost time for painting, my favourite part.

Thank you Kirk, inspiration is what I get from the whole forum here, it's for free my friend.
I have made a small decorative ornamental vase.
No milliput involved this time, just pieces of plastic and a marbel.
I had the intention to make a vase with iron flowers but finally I decided to do this one.

Sebastian : there's more coming up. Tx !
Shaun : I am still reworking it. It was necessary for it has to match with the rest of the ornaments and the plates on the wall. Tx !
Rudi : thank you !
Julien : it's very funny to paint this way and the concrete look appears soon. I will use it more for future projects.
I have decided to paint the brick gate. Here are some photos :
More is coming up.

Very good, the paralelism among the stone lion "guarding" the gate and Pak guarding also the gate give a interesting argument at you scene.
I see here a old, derelict, garden of and abandoned manor with tall grass, and the Pak as the lion in the sabana waiting is prey :-)
hope see the result of your painting skills
congratulations!

You are right about this Carlos. It will be an old gate with a delerict garden where wild herbs and plants dominate the scene.
As you can see (sorry for the picture quality) I have tried to create fine mosses by using washes in different tones of green.
Today I'll do the next stage.
Cheers ! G.

This is fantastic work, especially the gaps in the brick-work, just under the flat tops. I noticed the impressive lion, and the Mother Mary statue, on Historicus Forma, last year, but failed to comment. Seeing the sculptures now in their home is too evocative to ignore. Is the "Wilkommen" diorama still set aside?

I'm afraid so Heine, but all is not lost, a manufacturer has casted both the lion and the two houses. Now I am building a collection of early war German tanks.
