I'm pretty sure this question was asked and answered a million times before, but I can't find any old threads...

So the question is, what paints do you use to simulate this very characteristic reddish Vietnamese mud?
Tamiya, ModelMaster or Humbrol suggestions would be most useful.

For my Splash diorama Charlie Fox I used Hobby Craft paints. I used White/Red/Brown and mixed until I was happy with the color. I have two of three layers of different mixes to give texture and depth.

I use Tamiya paint quite a bit and if I were to mix using those colors I would use Flat Red, Flat White, Red Brown.

The color of the mud depends in what part of the country you are trying to depict. In the central highlands (1st Cav US Marines) the mud is a red clay look like Scott shows in his example. If you are depicting the southern regions (Cu Chi 25th Inf Div) the mud is more of a brown to sand color. In some areas it is even a grey brown.

I find Model master burnt umber looks real good lightly sprayed onto the bottom and lower parts looks accurate. This is more of the dry dusty look effect
