I believe that structure is actually a radio antenna. As for the flag, I've seen folks apply a decal to aluminum foil, or craft one out of tissue paper soaked in white glue and then either painted or had a decal applied to it.

Are we talking about the 223, 232, or 263? Even though it was a "clothes rack" radio antenna, Panzer Colors I shows a photo of an Afrika Korps 263 w/ a partial sunshade rigged on the antenna, and a "profile" of a 223 with a full shade rigged on the antenna.

Hi 19Delta, it was a rectangular radio frame antenna for long range communication.. It was also made to be collapsable / fold down.

James, I don't use tissue paper to make flags. Try this: scan/find an image of the flag you want and use your photo editor to get it to be two sided by makng a mirror image and pasting that next to the original. Save that toa file. Insert that to a word program as you would clip art and resize it to the scale size you want. Print it using the best resolution you can get. Regular paper will do for this. Seal the printed side with decal saver when the ink is dry. When this dries. cut it out and give it a sharp crease. Apply a light coat of thinned white glue to the inner surfaces and carefully fold it over onto itself. The thinned glue will soften the paper and allow you to get nice folds and draping effect. When the glue has dried, you'll have a nice realistic looking flag. Here's an example of a finished product:

I can never get the images to show up directly !
